YOUR GIFTS MATTER

Did you participate in the Believe Party? If you are enjoying a bottle you discovered on the Wine Wall or anticipating an experience you won the bid for, thank you! The auction, the delicious party boxes -- these helped provide important support for YWCA services. If you haven't yet experienced the warmth of knowing you've helped someone out of darkness to find new hope, won't you make a gift today?

The auction closed at $25,700, pretty good for a virtual event, though still a ways from the $70,000 event goal.

In the days since the party ended, our community’s generous help narrowed the gap, with $23,300 left to raise. You can help close this gap right now with your gift.

A shortfall means that a family who turns to the YWCA for help out of a dangerous situation may not find what they need. The person who shows up at the protection order clinic for help in filing paperwork may have to wait in line or come back another day.

We know how good this community feels about supporting women and families at the YWCA.

And we know Walla Walla isn't the kind of town that turns its back when someone is suffering.

COVID Q&A at YWCA
Our next monthly visit from Walla Walla County Community Health Department is Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 9 a.m. Bring your questions about COVID-19 in our community, the vaccine, and your health. Check our Facebook or Instagram feeds where we will post a QR code to the signup site where you can schedule your first, second, or (if eligible) booster shot. If you aren't sure about getting vaccinated, this is a great place to find out more about how it might affect you.

You help us address
local childcare crisis
In nearby Dayton, where county residents have few childcare options, Tabitha Haney, YWCA Director of Childcare, is working with other experts – from state licensors and inspectors to legislators and architects – in the search for solutions.
Perhaps most affected by the childcare crisis are Dayton General Hospital employees, essential workers who – more than ever during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic – need reliable, affordable care. We've even heard reports of families traveling as far as the Tri-Cities for care!

The Early Learning Coalition is exploring funding possibilities, and we look forward to the continued effort to set up quality care options for Columbia County.

SPANISH GROUPS RESUME
After a year being hit disproportionately hard by COVID and connecting only by phone, our Spanish-speaking clients are looking forward to in-person outdoor support group meetings.
“Too many in this group have experienced job loss, uneven income, and illness, even death,” said Celia Guardado, YWCA Outreach and Community Relations Coordinator. “I’m so grateful to the YWCA donors who make it possible for me to be here for them. Helping connect these women with resources to get through COVID has been a privilege,” Celia said.

CHILDCARE SOON TO GET COOL NEW PLAY OPTIONS
Tabitha Haney, YWCA Director of Childcare, is thrilled that plans for new outdoor play options are finally moving forward after the uncertainty of the past months.
“Our donors are so supportive of My Friends’ House – it’s really amazing. We will have a little city of ride-on toys and fun places to explore,” she said. “We can’t wait to move forward on this again.".
