“Ask the Allergist” is a free service provided by AAFA. Our allergist will answer your questions about managing asthma and allergies. Submit your question on our website.

Texas School District Puts Children at Risk With Anaphylaxis Policy

The Weatherford Independent School District in Texas recently created a policy that states school staff should give Benadryl for food allergy reactions. This practice creates a lot of concern. Epinephrine is the first line of treatment for anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America sent a letter to the Weatherford ISD board. Read the letter and learn more about properly treating anaphylaxis.

A Healthier Home Starts in the Bedroom

Dust mites thrive in warm, humid environments like your bed. In fact, more dust mites are found in your bedroom than any other room in your home. If you have a dust mite allergy, reducing dust mites in your bed is important. Our asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Progam has tested several pillows, mattress covers and sheets to ensure they are more suitable for creating a healthier home. We welcome a new CERTIFIED product to our bedding category - Serta Smart Defense Pillow. See all of our CERTIFIED bedding products at aafa.org/certified.
