How to Prepare for Summer Camps

Camps present wonderful experiences for children with food allergies to build self-esteem and self-confidence while developing lifelong friendships. Pediatric allergist Dr. Michael Pistiner and school and camp nurse Nancy Polmear-Swendris will answer your questions about sending children with food allergies to summer camp programs.

About the Presenters

Michael Pistiner, MD, MMSc, is a pediatric allergist for Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and voluntary instructor of pediatrics at Boston Children's Hospital. He is the father of a child with food allergies and has a special interest in food allergy management and education in school, camp, and restaurant settings.

Nancy Polmear-Swendris, MEd, RN, is the program coordinator for the University of Michigan's Food Allergy Program and is a medical advisor for Kids With Food Allergies. Nancy is a certified school nurse in the Ann Arbor, MI, school district. She has been a camp nurse for 30 years.
