September Newsletter

Welcome to Ann Arbor for Public Power’s September Newsletter! In the past month, DTE gave us a great demonstration of why our city needs public power through their poor response to a weather event that caused major, long-lasting outages across our town. As we see the horrifying effects of climate change and dirty energy begin to manifest in our own home and abroad, we affirm our commitment to fight for a utility in Ann Arbor that’s truly community-owned, not investor-owned, that we can trust, and that protects the most vulnerable among us. Read on for new developments in our campaign and ways you can get involved. We have a world to win!

Local Campaign Updates

Fundraiser September 9th

We will be holding a fundraiser on September 9th in Burns Park from 5-9pm! There will be food provided for purchase by Jonny Taco, live music from the RJ Spängler NOLA quartet, and State Representative Yousef Rabhi, State Senator Jeff Irwin, and Sean McBrearty from Clean Water Action will be speaking at the event. In consideration of the pandemic, we expect attendants to come vaccinated and wearing a mask. Come one, come all for fun, good eats, and a meaningful discourse about public power in our city. If you can’t make it or just want to help out now anyway, you can donate to our campaign at our brand new Paypal link.

Additional details about the event can be found here.

Feasibility Study Resolution

Council Member Elizabeth Nelson will be introducing a resolution at the next City Council meeting directing the Energy Commission to consider the question of a feasibility study. This resolution also sets a timeline such that City Council would be able to act towards a feasibility study in September.

You can read the text of the resolution here.

The City Council meeting is September 7th at 7pm on CTN.
