Roe v. Wade Memorial Mass in January and New in 2023: Celebrate Life events in June

Memorial Mass on the 50th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade: On Jan. 22, 2023, America will mark the 50th anniversary of the day that led to the deaths of more than 60 million lives through abortion. The 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade resulted in more lives lost than U.S. soldiers killed in all our wars combined. We mourn the loss of innocent lives in the womb and their potential; who might they have become and what gifts would these children have brought to the world? We mourn also for the wounded women and troubled fathers — the parents of those children aborted.

On the 50th anniversary day, Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, we will honor those lost to abortion. Denver Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila will be the celebrant at the 12:30 p.m. Mass that day at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 1530 Logan St., in Denver.

For all other parishes that may wish to participate, please peruse the Mass Aid document in English and Spanish (linked here) which includes Entrance Procession ideas, including children/young people; front table decoration ideas; songs and suggested Scripture readings; as well as prayers to choose from for the day’s Intercessions. We trust there will be a great outpouring of participation in this tremendously important day of remembrance.

Celebrate Life to be on June 24, 2023: For years, our Celebrate Life rally and march has been held on the west side of the state Capitol in Denver in January, the same month as the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, with many thousands of us bearing witness outside in that bitter cold month.

But as the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the Dobbs case this summer put an end to Roe v. Wade, the landscape of the pro-life movement has changed as well, and we want to celebrate life in a new way for pro-life warriors in Colorado.

The Celebrate Life events will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Cherry Creek State Park. There are two wonderful reasons for this. One, it will be the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in the Dobbs case. Two, next year will be the 30th anniversary of World Youth Day in Denver with St. Pope John Paul II. We have already secured the preliminary permission from Cherry Creek State Park to have a celebratory event directly adjacent to the World Youth Day site – so that it can be visited as part of the day’s festivities! Please mark your calendars and we will keep you updated with details.

Videos from Gospel of Life Presentation 2022: Thanks to everyone who attended “A New Birth of Human Dignity and Civil Rights: Understanding the Dobbs Ruling on Abortion,” on Oct. 22 at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish in Centennial. Louis Brown, Jr., JD, executive director of Christ Medicus Foundation, and Sr. Maris Stella, SV, from the Sisters of Life in Denver, both gave powerful presentations. 40 Days for Life 365 Continues: The 40 Days for Life fall campaign ended Sunday, Nov. 6, with the great news of more than 1,300 participants and 19 babies saved during the campaign. With immense joy and encouragement, we continue to host 40 Days for Life 365 in Denver, aiming to have a prayer presence outside the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic, at 7155 E. 38th Ave., in Denver, 365 days of the year. Act to Stop Late-term Abortion Clinic Proposed for Pueblo: Read this story in The Pueblo Chieftain, “Pueblo mayor: ‘Nothing I can do’ to stop contested abortion clinic,” then read this call-to-action on the website Save Pueblo's Future: “Pueblo doesn't need Dr. Carhart. We don't want our children to have to walk by a late term abortion clinic, with all the noise and visuals that come with it, on their way to and from school. We have enough problems with rampant crime, a growing homelessness problem, needles in the park and drugs flooding our streets; we don't need Pueblo to be known for post-viable, 3rd trimester abortions too. Call Mayor Gradisar's office and let him know you are against this gruesome abortionist opening a clinic in our beloved city. Ask him to deny Dr. Carhart's business license. We believe he can stop this clinic from opening. Let's hold him to it.”

Prayer in the Square on Saturday, Dec. 3: Let’s pray together in public every First Saturday of the month, at Prayer in the Square. Go to for times and contact information for more than 20 locations on the Front Range. “We pray a Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet for God’s love, mercy and peace — through the intercession of Our Lady of Fatima and Our Lady of Guadalupe — for our country, for an end to the persecution of Christians worldwide and for the sanctity of all human life.” Is your parish hosting public prayer as a powerful witness in your community? Listen Every Week: Respect Life Radio, hosted by Deacon Geoff Bennett, airs each week on the Catholic Radio Network (1120 AM) with podcast downloads available at Listen to the recent interview with Maggie Green: Praying for your kids to return to the faith

November is a very precious month in the Church year, where we take time specifically to remember all the faithful saints who’ve journeyed before us and now cheer us on from Heaven, as well as our dear family members and friends who are no longer with us on Earth. This is especially poignant for our family this year as we’ve very recently lost a close family member, which has turned our world upside down. We cannot imagine walking through this level of grief without the hope of being reunited in eternity. Let us be brave when sharing our faith with those who have none – that they may learn the true beauty of authentic hope in the midst of despair.

In Christ,
