Roe v. Wade Memorial Mass on Sunday, Jan. 22

Join us Jan. 22 for Memorial Mass on the 50th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade: On the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision — Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023 — we will honor all those lost to abortion. Denver Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila will celebrate a Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 1530 Logan St. in Denver, at 12:30 p.m. See and share the details, including an event flyer, at this link. That 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision resulted in more than 60 million lives lost to abortion. We mourn the loss of innocent lives in the womb and their potential: who might they have become and what gifts would these children have brought to the world? We mourn also for the wounded women and wounded men — the parents of those children who were aborted.

Mass Aid Document for Parish Remembrance of Roe v. Wade Anniversary: We trust there will be a great outpouring of participation on this tremendously important day of remembrance on Jan. 22, 2023. For parish remembrance, please see the Mass Aid document linked here which includes Entrance Procession ideas, including children/young people; front table decoration ideas; songs and suggested Scripture readings; as well as numerous prayers to choose from for the day’s Intercessions.

Celebrate Life to be on Saturday, June 24, 2023: For years, our Celebrate Life rally and march has been held at the Colorado State Capitol in January, the same month as the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, with many thousands of us bearing witness outside. But as the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the Dobbs case last summer put an end to Roe v. Wade, the landscape of the pro-life movement has changed, as well, and we want to celebrate life in a new way for pro-life warriors in Colorado. The Celebrate Life events will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Cherry Creek State Park. There are two wonderful reasons for this. One, it will be the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in the Dobbs case. Two, this year marks the 30th anniversary of World Youth Day in Denver with St. Pope John Paul II. We have already secured the preliminary permission from Cherry Creek State Park in Aurora to have a celebratory event directly adjacent to the World Youth Day site — so that it can be visited as part of the day’s festivities! See the Save the Date flyer at this link and we will keep you updated with details.

Bishops Respond to FDA Action on Abortion Pill: On January 3, 2023, "the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the loosening of safety requirements to allow retail pharmacies, through a simple certification process, to distribute the chemical abortion drug, mifepristone (previously commonly known as RU-486), by prescription," reports the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Bishop Michael F. Burbidge of Arlington, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities, issued a statement (linked here) that begins: “The Catholic Church is consistent in its teaching on upholding the dignity of all life, and that must include care for both women and their children. We decry the continuing push for the destruction of innocent human lives and the loosening of vital safety standards for vulnerable women. This week’s action by the FDA not only advances the obvious tragedy of taking the lives of the preborn, but is also harmful to women in need.”
