I am here!

Getting on a plane with a one way ticket.

Three weeks ago I boarded a plane to fly to the Czech Republic to begin my new journey as a missionary serving with Josiah Venture. The time has finally come! I am here living in the Czech Republic! Praise God for all He has done! I am excited to share with you what I have been doing over the past handful of weeks as well as what my summer will look like. It is pretty exciting! I will get into all of that later in the update. Keep reading!

It some ways, the journey leading up until this point has seemed very long with moments where I would ask myself and the Lord, "is this really going to happen?" He is so faithful though! He has provided so well all of the resources, training, and support I have needed to be able to do what I am dong now. His plan is perfect! We can rest assured in that. We must continue to follow though! I am confident that I am in the place where God has called me to be to use what He has given me to shine the light of Christ before the world, that they may see Him and give glory and fame to His name!

New Life

Saying good bye to family and friends was one of the hardest things that I have had to do in a long time. The reality of leaving all that has been so close and near to me for so long hit me pretty hard over the last few months while living in the states. This is not just a quick trip and back, this is a new life! While boarding the plane with my one way ticket and all of my few possessions packed with me, I had to remind myself to keep walking and keep putting one foot in front of the other. This was quite the opposite of any experience I have ever had getting on a plane to go do mission work or any kind of travel for that matter. It was just me. Usually I have always been with people to share the experience and excitement with. It was my greatest desire that day to have those people with me on the plane. There is such a great joy in being able to do life and ministry together with the ones that are dearest to you that is like no other. My mind was flooded with sweet memories of the many trips that I have taken with ASM (Alderwood Student Ministries) at Alderwood Community Church and the friends and family that I was blessed to do them with. I wouldn't trade any of those moments for the world.  Since I was in middle school, that has been my life.  But it is also what has helped shaped me to do what I am here to do now. Those moments, experiences, and relationships have all been a blessing and a gift from God. I am so thankful for all that He has done! And now I am HERE! My God and my King, I thank you!

Then Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will loose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."

Matthew 16:24-25

What I have been doing.

The past three weeks has seemed to pass like a whirlwind. It is crazy to think that it has already been that long! I landed in Prague on the evening to Tuesday the 13th to the sight of my new roommates Josh and Jonathan greeting me at the arrivals gate. This was a joyous moment! These were the same two guys that I had stayed with when I was visiting the Czech Republic and Josiah Venture on my six week long vision trip just over a year ago. I am so thankful that I get to live with them again and be around familiar faces as I continue to transition into my new life here in Czech.

Since being here, I have tried to take things somewhat slow. Sleep has been one thing that I have been trying to work on with vigour. The other night after returning home from a day trip to the Czech embassy in Slovakia to apply for my Czech visa, I laid down on the couch for a few moments with plans on getting right back up to fill the rest of my evening  with doing something productive only to find out that is was 1 am. My anticipated few moments turned into seven hours, on top of the additional eight hours that I got after switching sleeping locations from our couch to my new bed from Ikea. Usually I would kick myself in the pants for doing something like this. I mean come on...who needs to sleep that long? Apparently I did this time. And with everything that I will be stepping into very soon. It was very much needed.

It has been a great first three weeks though. My Josiah Venture family has done a phenomenal job in welcoming me and helping me get settled here. A few weeks ago on a Wednesday evening, 15-20 of us or so gathered together on the outskirts of a lake in a town called Baška for BBQ, live music, great conversation, and the celebration of my arrival to the Czech Republic. It was a very special evening and I am so thankful for my new Josiah Venture family. In some ways, it has felt more like a reunion than anything since many of these relationships are not necessarily new, but a continuation of friendships that have already been established.

Here is a list of a few other things I have done since being here:
  • Visited the foreign police to let the country know that I am now in the Czech Republic. They better be ready for me now.
  • Attended a Josiah Venture Fusion Club (youth rock choir club that meets weekly within local churches). Super fun. The kiddos were great. Awesome outreach ministry.
  • Spent a half a day at Ikea shopping for my new home items. This was super fun. Ikea is nuts. And I did take a Ikea meatball break. Yum!
  • Went to church with my roommate Josh. We went through 1 Kings 2 and David's instruction to Solomon on showing himself to be a man.
    • "Be strong and show yourself a man, and keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in His ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his rules, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn, that the Lord may establish his word that he spoke concerning me, saying, "if your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, you shall not lack a man on the throne in Israel."
  • Worked and discussed the summer ministry plans with my new team at our office in a town called Frydlant. Lot's of really cool things are about to happen. We are still in prep mode right now before we officially kick things off starting this week!
  • Setting up consultations with language tutors. This has been slow to get started with unfortunately. Planning on doing as much as I can with the resources and tools that I have. Once the chaos of summer has died down, this will be one of my number one priorities!
  • Traveled on trains, trams, buses, cars, and foot trying to get my bearings set on the geography around here and where everything is...and where I even am. Oh! And go for runs at mid day around town in nearly 26 degree weather (that's close to 80 degrees in fahrenheit).
  • Participated in an event called the Amazing Race where all the summer interns had to race to specific locations in Slovenia performing different challenges that would advance them to the next stage in the race.  This is a great way to start off the summer. It is an awesome opportunity that creates close community, bonding, and dependency on one another before we all embark into a summer where we will really need one another to lean on. And...it is super fun!
  • Film and document Amazing Race and intern training.
  • Lead worship at intern training at our training/conference facility in Czech.
  • Make coffee in the morning and spend time in Gods word. So good!

Summer plans.

I will be documenting through video and photo basically everything that will be happening this summer within the different ministries that will be taking place. This will entail traveling to a lot of camps and places where ministry is happening and gathering the stories and testimonies of what God is doing in bringing new believers to Himself and teaching his workers more about Himself. We want to make much of Christ and of what God is doing to further expand His kingdom here throughout Central and Eastern Europe, and even beyond. Here is a list of some of the things that I will be doing specifically.

  • After this is over, I will have a short break until summer camps/ministries officially kick off. In this time I will be prepping gear and a tentative travel schedule for where and when I will be visiting certain camps/ministries and what specific stories I will be gathering. Thankfully, I will have a summer intern for myself who will help me with a few of the projects that I will be executing. His name is Jacob, and he grew up with his family living in Poland serving with Josiah Venture and is now going to College in the states. But this summer I will get to work alongside him! Super thankful for this guy. Excited to do ministry with him and to have another adventure partner!
  • Travel to a handful of countries that Josiah Venture has camps in and gather testimonies and stores of what God is doing. Followed by this will be a lot of sitting down at my computer and pricing it all together. We are hoping to have a final product towards the end of summer/early fall.
  • Josiah Venture puts on a kids camp for all of our third culture kids (missionary kids). In August I will be going to Croatia where our camp is located this year and be a leader/counsellor/supervisor (so many terms these days) for a few kiddos. This is a great time for our JV family to get away (especially those that have kids), and kist relax and reflect together on the ministry from the summer. It is basically like a family camp! Super excited for this and the chance to see Croatia!
  • After all is done...find a place to be still and quiet by myself and with the Lord and thank Him for all that He is done. It will be a great summer of ministry and I cannot wait to jump into it. I pray that my/our efforts will bring much glory to Christ and cast His light before a world that needs Jesus!

“Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times in every way.” 2 Thessalonians 3:16

New WEBSITE AND BLOG! Stay updated even better!

I have been building a new website and blog where you can follow all of my updates. I am hoping to start blogging more about the day to day life that I encounter and experience here is Czech and my new European life. This is a website with everything "Daniel Reimer" rolled into one place. You will be able to see all my photos, videos, blog posts, and anything else in one centralized location. How does that sound?! Amazing I hope! I am still in the process of piecing a few things together, so forgive me if you do not see something that you have been hoping to see quite yet. And expect the layout of things to maybe switch or get tweaked as time rolls on. But I wanted to make sure at this point that you have access to it as the summer rolls on! Click on the button below to be directed to my new website! Enjoy!

Please click the link above to be directed to my new website and blog. Play around on it. Look at some photos, read some older blog post, and save my site as a top site! I will be posting more frequently to the blog and making a better home for my photos and videos for everyone to see!

Prayer.
  • Pray that this transition would continue to go smooth and that God would continue to grant much peace and joy to me during this time. Because He is!
  • Pray that God would save many through the proclamation of His gospel throughout the many camps that will be happing this summer.
  • Pray for His labourers here. That His Spirit would revive tired souls and equip us with energy and knowledge and love.
  • Pray that much fruit would come and that much seed would be casted on good soil. That we would continue to see a movement of God among the youth of Central and Eastern Europe that finds it's home in the local church and transforms society!
  • Pray for good communication between my team and myself and other that I am doing life around constantly.
  • Pray that much fame would be given to the name of Jesus!
  • Pray for Cory and Kristine Cramer and there big move to Albania this weekend as new Josiah Venture Missionaries!
