Member Spotlight

Tara Lamoureux has a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Central Florida.  She wrote her thesis on the use of ozone and granulated activated carbon for the treatment of water with high organic and sulfide concentrations while working as the Water Quality Specialist for the City of Sanford.  Tara is now working as the Water Resources Engineer for the City of Casselberry where she is currently working on water distribution and wastewater collection system rehabilitation.  In her spare time, she likes to bake cupcakes and swim with her dog.

Tara has been active in the Society of Women Engineers since she was a sophomore in college.  She has been the Awards Chair for the Central Florida section from 2011-2015 and has helped the section and its members win numerous awards.  This past year, Tara was the President for the section.  Tara is also passionate about Outreach and feels it is very important to continue to get female students actively engaged in STEM.

Tara looks forward to supporting the other officers and continuing to host great Outreach and Professional Development Events.  She would also like to continue to have a monthly social event which has allowed the membership to network and meet more frequently.  Tara is excited to lead and support her fellow female engineers.

The UCF TRiO Center houses two programs for first generation, low-income, and students with disabilities.

Amy the Assistant Director of the PRIME STEM program is seeking volunteers to participate in a poliot STEM Career Academy on Aug 5 for 20-30 STEM students. As part of the event we are hoping to have a networking reception with an industry representative from all engineering disciplines.

Through a one-day STEM Career Academy students will evaluate their skills, values, personality, and related career fit with their intended career path. This event will help them become better prepared for making career-related decisions. The Academy will also feature skill development for networking and elevator pitches. Students will then be given an opportunity to apply these skills during a networking hour with STEM industry professionals. We hope to have a representative from all of the engineering disciplines so all students will have an individual to networking with that is in their chosen field.

We are seeking volunteers from 3pm-4pm on August 5 to network with our students and provide them with opportunities to learn more about their future career field. Please email Amy Bickel Amy.Bickel@ucf.edu or 407-823-3287 if you like to volunteer.
