Tourism Industry Update

From the Managing Director

Tourism Colleagues,

Seasons greetings. We hope your holidays are off to a wonderful start. An unfortunate new tradition this time of year is contingency planning for a federal shutdown. While we are cautiously optimistic that Congress will vote this week to keep the government funded through January or February, we want you to know that we are doing contingency planning for any scenario.

Given that any potential shutdown could affect the operation of national parks, monuments and other federally managed lands, we are in constant communication with our federal partners. We are ready to activate plans should a shutdown occur. We will communicate with visitors to maintain the best traveler experience possible while keeping federally managed lands protected, safe and accessible. Our key communications will be through VisitUtah.com, @VisitUtah, on social media and our online chat. As always, our Forever Mighty responsible travel messaging is at the heart of our communications.

We have now had enough experience with shutdowns that we know how to communicate well with visitors, but again, we are optimistic that the government will stay open through the holidays!
