MPHS Marching Band Heads
to Syracuse for Championships 

The MPHS Marching Band is a member of the New York State Field Band Conference (NYSFBC), whose end-of-the-season championship will held on Sunday, November 1, 2015, at Syracuse University.The championship is the culmination of a two-month long competition season for the marching band. In addition to its championship performance, students will attend the National Class Championship, which features many of the East Coast's most impressive marching bands. This is also a time when band members participate in bond building camaraderie, such as laser tag and the annual joint shoe polishing. Good luck! 


NOTE FOR MARCHING BAND FAMILIES: End-of-the-year dinner will be held Tuesday, November 3, at 7 PM, in MPHS. 
Volunteers Pull Out All the Stops
to Make "Music in the Park" a Success


As in years past, MPHS Marching Band's annual "Music in the Park," this year held on Sunday, October 11, at Indian Hills High School, was great success. The pride of the marching band family, this event draws crowds from throughout the region. The 50 plus volunteers who make it all happen deserve an enormous thank you for, well, everything. Our dedicated volunteers procured and transported supplies to Oakland and were responsible for setting up and manning a dozen or so areas, including food concession, parking, entrance gates, the judges' green room, decorations, and more. 

For Band Director David Marks this event is the program's most important fundraiser and a chance for the band to showcase their talents and the families that support them. "I am so thankful to the 100% effort from our marching band family who contribute to Music in the Park," says Marks. "Their great enthusiasm and can-do attitudes bring tremendous fun and pride to this event. I think everyone would agree that we owe a big debt of gratitude  to event Chairperson Sue Opderbeck. Thanks to her and everyone else associated with Music in the Park, it was an  all-around super day."

Adds Opderbeck, that "the dedication, camaraderie, patience and, above all, love for our kids was clearly evidenced by the amount of parent volunteers. Thank you one and all."

Maratene’s owner Gregg Burke and Tastefully Simple consultant Teri Heller are donating 20 percent of sales that evening to MPHS PAPs. Wine purchases will be pickup ready and food shipped to homes in time for the holiday. Heller is currently accepting online purchases to benefit PAPs through November 22. Click on “SHOP NOW” in the orange box so that orders will benefit MPHS PAPs. You don't need to be at the wine and food tasting to help raise funds for PAPs. Help Support the Musical  
MPHS 2016 musical will be “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” the story of a girl from Kansas who moves to New York City to marry a rich man in the fast-paced 1920s. The musical is conducting several fundraisers:
  • Raffle. First prize is Go Pro Camera. Others include $100 gift card, selfie stick and $25 gift card. Tickets are $5. See any cast member or Mrs. Halliwell for raffle tickets.
  • Premier Designs Jewelry Sale. PAPs friend Janine Rittinger is donating 40% of sales (not including tax and shipping) to support the musical. Please contact Mrs. Halliwell or Janine Rittinger for a catalog of fine quality accessories. Orders are due Monday, 11/9/15.  
  • Coffee Sale. Select from a variety of flavored coffees and hot chocolate. DOWNLOAD FORM.
Start your holiday shopping early at Lord & Taylor Charity Event, Saturday 11/14/15
Supporters can purchase for $5 a voucher that contains one 15% All Day Pass (includes fragrances and cosmetics) and two 25% single item coupons. The person who sells the most vouchers will win a $25 gift card to Lord  & Taylor. MPHS PAPs is looking for sellers too. To purchase your voucher/s or to pick vouchers to sell, contact Colleen Keegan or any member of the PAPs board.

PAPs’ Holiday Plant Sale.
 PAPs annual holiday plant sale offers a beautiful array of poinsettia, Christmas cactus, Norfolk Island pine tree, and amaryllis. No one has ever been disappointed by the quality of the plants. Mary Keenan is heading up the effort this year. Deadline to place orders is Wednesday, 11/17/15. Delivery is expected the first week in December. Download order form.
