Welcome.  As you will read in this issue and those that will follow, MPHS offers our children a diverse and rich curriculum of performing arts opportunities. Whether it’s participation in band, chorus, drama, the musical, or broadcasting, these performing arts programs not only hone students’ talents, but also build a variety of other life skills that contribute to their success. MPHS PAPs is here to support the aspirations of our children and the faculty who mentor them. Please join us in continuing your membership (download form) and supporting our fundraising events. Together, we can make 2015-2016 a great year for our children.
MPHS Marching Band: Unlike Most Others
Unlike most high school marching bands, the MPHS Marching Band, comprised of 52 students from 7th to 12th grade, is a competition band. As a member of the New York State Field Band Conference (NYSFBC), our marching band – in addition to performing at high school football games – compete every weekend in September and October against other marching bands from regions as far north as Phoenix, NY, and east as Brentwood, Long Island. The season ends at the NYSFBC Championships, Sunday, November 1, 2015, at Syracuse University.  View Season Rehearsal and Performance Schedule Here.

NOTE: Connect with the band program online here. The page contains calendar sync links for the iPhone and users of Google calendar, making it super easy for parents and students to keep up-to-date.
The Quest Begins. This year’s show is entitled, The Quest. The program features music of "Jupiter" by Holst, "New World Symphony" by Dvorak, "Hoe Down from Rodeo" by Copland, and other classics as we follow "Justin" on a "Quest" for his true inner voice. The Marching Band received a special citation for music at its first competition performance on 9/19/15 at Northern Highlands.

Sunday, 10/11/15, is Music in the Park

Join your MPHS Marching Band on Sunday, October 11, as it hosts its annual "Music in the Park" at Indian Hills High School. "It is a great honor to bring together bands from around the area in competition," says Band Director David Marks. "Not only is it a day of outstanding performances, it also serves as our program's main fundraiser." All proceeds from the event, which is run entirely by volunteers and supported in large part with donated supplies, go directly to the program. Hope to see our MP family there for a great day of marching band music and community fun. If you'd like to make a contribution of time, food, water, or money, please contact event chair Sue Opderbeck.
2016 Musical Announced

MPHS 2016 musical will be “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” the story of a girl from Kansas who moves to New York City to marry a rich man in the fast-paced 1920s. She samples the "thoroughly modern" flapper life, makes friends, and finds unexpected romance. Auditions have been completed. Musical Director Donna Halliwell expects the casting to be announced in early October. Parent meeting for cast and crew members is scheduled on Monday, 10/19/15 in the Choir Room.
