MPHS is winner of the 2016 NAMM National Excellence Award: For Third Consecutive Year
The NAMM Foundation recognizes the Midland Park Public Schools for its outstanding commitment to music education with a Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) designation. Midland Park Public Schools join 476 districts across the country to receive the prestigious distinction in 2016. School districts are selected based on funding, staffing of highly qualified teachers, commitment to standards, community support, participation and access to music instruction. MPHS was among seven districts in Bergen and Passaic county and among 30 in New Jersey and 476 across the nation that were chosen for the designation.
The vision of NAMM is “a world in which the joy of making music is a precious element of daily living for everyone; a world in which every child has a deep desire to learn music and a recognized right to be taught; and in which every adult is a passionate champion and defender of that right.”

MPHS PAPs joins Dr. Marie Cirasella in congratulating our administrators, faculty, staff, students, and parents for their collaborative efforts to sustain music education programs which enrich academic and extracurricular experiences for our students.
Students Return from Nashville Exhausted and Energized
Members of the HS and MS Bands went on a world-wind performance tour of Nashville from April 7-11. The students performed at the Country Music Hall of Fame, Vanderbilt University, and recorded music at Historic RCA Studio B. The students also attended a performance at the Grand Ole Opry that featured Eric Church, which was supported in part by a grant from MPHS PAPs.

Mr. Marks wishes to thank an amazing group of chaperons (left) who joined him on the trip. Not only are they a dedicated group of individuals but also share 20 years of collective memories. All (except the director) are graduates of Midland Park High School.

MPHS Jazz Band Performs at Festival - Click to Listen to Performance

On Saturday, April 23, the MPHS Jazz Band attended the One More Once Jazz Festival, hosted by the One More Once Big Band. During the band's performance, local Jazz Trombonist and Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts Chair of Jazz Studies Conrad Herwig sat in on a song and played an energetic solo. Following the performance, the band participated in a clinic led by Marc Stasio and Joe Magnarelli. Marc is currently the Managing Area Coordinator of Jazz Studies at Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts and is proficient on several instruments, including the Piano and Alto Saxophone. Joe is a very accomplished performer, having recorded with artists such as Glenn Miller, Harry Connick Jr., and Lionel Hampton, among many others. Joe is currently an adjunct professor at the Julliard School of Music and the Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts. The day concluded with a spectacular performance by the One More Once Big Band and more performances by local High School Jazz Bands. The Jazz Band would like to thank the MPHS Performing Arts Parents for the grant that allowed them to participate in this event.

Mrs. Halliwell would like to thank all those who helped with this year's musical Thoroughly Modern Millie.  There were many parents and friends who volunteered their time and talents to contribute to this huge undertaking. Special thanks to the cast, crew, and production staff who worked so hard to make it such a huge success.
