Do You Know?

Writers, do you know 14 ways to create a memorable character?

If not, Kenzie will show you next Saturday in Rogers.
More info here.

Our very own Alice French will be speaking about her book on Monday, November 17th, at 10 am at the Community Church at Holiday Island. Her book, Happy Birthday: Adjusting to Life's Changes as Birthdays Keep on Coming, is available to purchase on Amazon.

Your Writing Program is Looking Ahead to 2015

WRITERS' NIGHT OUT

Join us this coming Thursday for autumn comfort food. We will have homemade potpie (one chicken, one veggie) and pumpkin bars.
Alison will share what she learned from the Hemingway Writers' Retreat.

Around Our Villages

Alison spent last week at the Hemingway Writers' Retreat in Piggott, Arkansas, where Hemingway wrote Hills like White Elephants, A Farewell to Arms, and several more of his well-known stories. Alison got to read her work in Hemingway's barn studio. Our own Pat Carr was the featured instructor, and we met a lot of talented writers, whom we look forward to seeing again. Find out more about the Hemingway Center here.

Speaking of Hemingway, Kenzie read her Hemingwayesque story at our coffee reception in Rogers, where we visited with area writers who had really interesting story ideas. We're excited about Rogers! Even if you missed the reception, you can jump into Kenzie's first workshop NEXT SATURDAY (15th). More info here.

The Village Writing School has a number of students from Holiday Island, so we were happy that a donor sponsored a hole in the
HI Veterans' Day Golf Tournament in our name.

Twelve talented writers read their stories at the final workshop in our Crystal Bridges series.  We are preparing to publish these in the first Village Writing School anthology, entitled Bridging the Visual & Literary Arts.  If you attended one of the Crystal Bridges workshops, it's not too late to get your story in.

We discussed the author's voice after our chili dinner during Writers' Night Out last Thursday.
