While summer may be officially winding down on the calendar, August weather in Elizabeth City is still hot and is the perfect time to sample great food in air-conditioned surroundings. Be sure to attend one of the community’s most eagerly awaited annual food events as well as the opening of two new downtown eateries.
 
Food is the word at the annual Taste of the Albemarle. Now in its 14th year, the event takes place on Friday, August 3 so mark your calendar and bring your appetite!

Looking for light fare with a nod to European cafés and brasseries? On Poindexter Street, a new bistro plans its opening in mid-August in a 19th century building and in early fall, East Main Street will boast a combined Italian pizzeria and gelateria located at the historic Virginia Dare Arcade.
