Message from the President

PTA has its roots in advocacy! For more than 100 years, PTA has focused on improving the lives of every child in education, health and safety. Founded in 1897 as the National Congress of Mothers by Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst, PTA is a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for public education. We celebrate PTA Founder’s Day on Feb 17, a chance to remember the legacy and the mission.
Through advocacy, as well as family and community education, the same mission continues today. Thank you to all who joined us at the SCCPTA Winter Legislative Training and General Meeting last month where we learned about FLPTA and SCPS Legislative priorities. We hope that you will plan to attend the FLPTA Legislative Conference in Tallahassee March 26-28. Continue your education to confidently advocate on behalf of children and their families!
Thank you for all you do on behalf of PTA for the teachers, students and parents at your schools!
Katie Burris, SCCPTA President 2016-2017
PTA! Welcome In!

SCCPTA wants you! (in Tallahassee, that is!)
This year the SCCPTA is offering (2) $250 Legislative Grants for a local PTA/PTSA Board or representatives to attend the 2017 Florida PTA Legislative Conference. The Conference begins Sunday evening, March 26, and continues through Tuesday, March 28 with speakers, programs and Legislative Committee meetings. These funds could assist with registration, transportation and lodging in Tallahassee!
If this is something you or your PTA/PTSA Board is interested in, SCCPTA will offer two grants selected from replies submitted by Feb 25!  For the Grant Application, click here
For FLPTA Legislative Conference information and registration click here
Now is the time to plan for 2017-2018!
Have you elected a Nominating Committee that will encourage potential PTA leaders, nominate one person for each office, and report these nominees at your election meeting later this spring? Refer to your Bylaws for additional information, and contact your Area Coordinator with any other questions.

SCCPTA Reflections Awards Celebration and Vendor Event
We look forward to celebrating this year's theme, "What is Your Story?", with you and winning student artists at the SCCPTA Reflections Awards Ceremony on Wed, Mar 1 at WSHS, Art exhibit and Vendor Event beginning at 5:00p with the Reflections Awards Program beginning at 7:00p. Congratulations to all our talented SCPS students!

You may notice some minor changes to the event this year.
