Message from the President

On behalf of SCCPTA, thank you for all your hard work for the benefit of students, parents and teachers at your schools! We hear about many of the programs, events and fundraisers families are enjoying at your schools and around the community. We are pleased to know so many benefit from your efforts!
One of these programs is the PTA Reflections program. Thank you to all Reflections Chairs and committee members across Seminole County who encouraged our talented students, and worked on their behalf to showcase all their creativity as they “Let Their Imaginations Fly”! Winning artwork from each participating school has been submitted; the difficult job of county judging is underway, and we look forward to the April 2016 event to celebrate local, county, and state winners!
Thank you all for your advocacy and for voicing your thoughts and concerns about high stakes testing, funding, recess and more to support all children. It is important we continue to give students and parents FSA preparation resources. A legal change is required to allow the use of tests; until that time, all may access the FSA Portal for practice questions, information and email alerts.
Enjoy the holidays with your families and friends, celebrate with all your favorite things, and we look forward to more in 2016! Thank you for all you do!

Katie Burris

Florida PTA Legislative Conference
Sunday, January 24- Tuesday, January 26

Tallahassee Center Conference Room
215 S. College Ave.
Tallahassee, FL 32301

This year’s theme is “Taking Action for Kids”, something we, as PTA advocates, do every day. Hot topics will include discussions of bills on Juvenile Justice, Guns on Campuses, Florida Assessments and other health and safety-related issues. This conference is a great opportunity to learn about the issues affecting our children’s education, to tour the Capitol and to meet with legislators. The event kicks off with a dinner at 6 p.m. Sunday, January 24. On Monday, January 25, we will have speakers throughout the day; breakfast and lunch are provided. For those interested, we will be touring the Capitol on Tuesday, January 26, with an opportunity to meet with legislators. This is a great opportunity to learn about PTA’s role in advocating for all children. Add your voice! More information is available. Registration is now open:

News from Florida PTA:
Florida PTA held a “Stand Up and Be Counted Day” on Friday, Nov. 13. Local PTA units called, texted, emailed and Facebook messaged membership numbers by the thousands. We are PTA strong! We heard from local units in 12 different counties throughout the state of Florida; from far north Escambia County to southern Dade County. Membership recruitment is a year round initiative; local units have until May 1 to submit new members to the State Office. Keep up the great work!
