Bring your energy and ideas to assist a community organization or member to find an innovative solution or new opportunity! IDEAS Network is a fun way to join in building collaborative efforts with individuals or organizations by Initiating, Developing, Evaluating, Activating and Sustaining ideas.
These IDEAS Networks have provided wonderful opportunities for community members to meet new people, conduct engaging and insightful conversations, and discover commonalities on seemingly unrelated topics. Research shows innovation is key to business success and that creative thinking is the driver! The New York Times recently reported,  “creativity is the ability to spot problems and devise smart solutions …a prized and teachable skill”. Bloomington’s Creative Thinking Training Center will give community members and organizations the thinking skills they will need to navigate the waters of change in today’s world.

February's IDEAS Network provided wonderful lessons in both quality and quantity achieved using the diverge/converge rules of effective idea-storming. Our event partner was WonderLab Museum of Science, Health, and Technology represented by its Gift Shop Manager, Colleen Couper. Our challenge was a simple: “How to Increase Gift Shop Sales”.
In reference to quality and quantity: even though our group was smaller than anticipated, the quality of their ideas was grand. This was one of our most productive and engaging sessions, with ideas flowing by the minute. Guests started the evening playing with building blocks and reminiscing about their childhood dreams, how they relate to now and their dreams for the future. This got the group engaged. Then creative action coach Ladi Terry kicked things off by introducing the “target” exercise. She posted a large target/bull’s-eye on the wall and then had Colleen fill participants in on the current status of the gift shop. What practices were pulling toward the goal of more sales? Indiana University's Maurer School of Law is now operating a nonprofit legal clinic. They are looking to provide free legal advice, education, and representation to both existing and prospective nonprofit organizations. The clinic will work with organizations on a wide variety of transactional legal matters.

The Arts Alliance of Greater Bloomington is an association of artists, art organizations, and arts advocates dedicated to fostering all art genres in our area by providing a forum for communication, collaboration, encouragement, and collective action.  The Alliance aims to speak with the unified voice of all artists, in all their diversity, that we might raise the general condition of the arts community as a whole. The Arts Alliance works to reinforce the vitality and sustainability of the Bloomington area as an arts center for our citizens, and as a vibrant arts destination for our visitors.
