22nd Aug 2022 - NationalHCAW Summer Meeting

Our Summer meeting which will take place on Monday 22nd August 2022.
  • Sharing plans for National Hate Crime Awareness Week 2022
  • Networking opportunities
  • Presentations

NB: Our onlines meetings are aimed at Hate Crime Sector professionals working across the UK, people who work and volunteer for anti-hate crime groups and organisations. We want to create opportunities for networking, communication and collaboration across the sector.

The meetings are not aimed at individuals experiencing hate crime or to provide a forum for cases/casework to be discussed - victims of hate crime should be directed to organisations that take on casework - as listed on the Reporting Hate Crime page on our national website.

Debate Not Hate

Seven in 10 councillors report experiencing abuse and intimidation over the last 12 months and councillors are reporting that abuse is becoming more common and increasing in severity.

The Local Government Association's Debate Not Hate public statement calls on local government leaders, the government and relevant partners to come together through a government convened working group to produce and implement an action plan that addresses the abuse and intimidation of elected members and candidates and ensures their safety while they fulfil their democratic roles.

London Councils' party groups have signed up to the public statement, which you can read (and sign up to) here.

Neighbourhood Watch - Hate Crime Pack

As part of their Community Safety Charter, Neighbourhood Watch have created a Hate Crime Pack. They invite you to do three things:

1. Go through the pack, taking note of the different types of hate crime and incidents and the ways that you can report, albeit through the police, reporting centres or anonymously through CrimeStoppers.

2. Think about the area in which you live and your observations of what happens.  Have you seen any signs of hate crime and incidents?  Did you do anything about it?  Did you feel you were confident to do anything?  Have your views changed because of this pack, and would you feel more confident to recognise the signs and do something about it?

3. Share your learning with others and encourage them to join the Community Safety Charter.

Click here view the Hate Crime Pack >
London Hate Crime Stakeholders Reference Group.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 13th September between 2-4 pm.
