Centre Director Christoph Trattner appointed as a Distinguished Speaker of the ACM

Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) appointed MediaFutures Centre Director Prof. Dr. Christoph Trattner as a Distinguished Speaker for three years.

Trattner is an active and frequently invited speaker. He has given over 50 talks at leading conferences and institutions in the field, such as ACM RecSys, The Web Conference or The Alain Turing Institute.

More information about his talks can be found here

Distinguished Speaker of the ACM engages with emerging professionals, students and, in some cases, the public on topics in computing through the appointment of leading researchers.

ACM Speakers represent a broad range of companies, universities and colleges and it is an excellent opportunity for different institutions, events and corporations to deepens their knowledge on the broad range of topics covering Human Computer Interaction, Artificial Intelligence and many more.

We wish him good luck in his future endeavours!

Netflix Algorithm Confuses – Christoph Trattner sharing his expertise

MediaFutures Centre Director Christoph Trattner was interviewed for an article by “Dagbladet” published 08-06/21.

The theme of the article is recommender systems. In particular, the algorithms used by Netflix to determine which movies their users are likely to enjoy. These algorithms have caused confusion among Netflix users, as today's most popular shows and movies are not being recommended to them.

As a researcher with over 100 scientific articles published in top venues about his work within the fields of “Behavioral Data Analytics” and “Recommender Systems”, Professor Christoph Trattner has been interviewed to comment on these algorithms.

“The algorithms search for people who are interested in the same thing as you. They then find movies that are popular within this group, but that you have not seen before, says Trattner to Dagbladet.”
