How You Can #OptOutside For Black Friday

This Black Friday, bike enthusiasts at Marty’s Reliable Cycle and REI are swapping crowded shopping aisles for more time behind their handlebars. Marty’s Reliable Cycle, with locations in Morristown, Randolph and Hackettstown, will be closed the day after Thanksgiving. Instead of hunting for deals, customers are invited to join organized Mustache Rides both on the road and on the trail.

These group rides will be the culmination of Marty’s month long, Movember campaign. Marty’s has joined international efforts to raise awareness for men’s health and is raising money for the Movember Foundation.

If Marty reaches his fundraising goal of raising $2,500, he will ceremoniously shave his iconic mustache. You can visit this page to track the action or make a donation. Check back later this month for location and time details to join the folks at Marty’s for a Mustache Ride!

REI is leading a national movement to #OptOutside on Black Friday by closing its stores and connecting people with a plethora of recreational activities. You can get in on the action by making a social media pledge with the hashtag #OptOutside to spend the day outdoors with family and friends.

So far, over 1,255,000 adventurers have pledged to participate with a social media pledge using #OptOutside. You can customize your pledge to spend Black Friday biking and start posting it to inspire others here. REI has created a tool to find the perfect outdoor activity near you. Just follow this link. You can filter results by activity, (like biking!), to get out there and start exploring.

Don’t forget to tag @TransOptions on all of your photos and posts showcasing how you choose to live sustainably and actively this Black Friday!

TransOptions' Adult Learn To Rides Featured by Bicycling Magazine

We're pretty excited that Bicycling Magazine featured us as one of 14 organizations across the country which offer Learn to Ride sessions for adults! Click here to view the article!

TransOptions offers free Learn to Ride courses for both adults and children in northern NJ who are seeking to learn how to ride a bicycle safely. Although the article (published in August) mentions an $8 fee, TransOptions does not charge for courses but some of our community partners may independently charge a fee for facility usage.

TransOptions' Bike Right® coaches are here to help guide you to ride on two wheels in no time. Learn to Ride students learn how to balance, pedal, start, stop and steer a bike as well as adjust a helmet for proper fit. Most people learn to ride their bikes while taking the class, but even if they don't, they leave with an easy, crash-free, and low-stress way to teach themselves to ride. It's never too late to learn to ride!

If you would like to sign up for a Learn to Ride session or to learn more about our Bike Right programs, please visit this page.

Winter Bicycling and How to Enjoy It

Although some of us may not want to think about it yet, winter is coming. But don't let the thought of Old Man Winter freeze out your bicycling routine!

Check out this great article by REI on how to keep riding on throughout the winter by using the right gear, outfits and skills.
