Another new year
We're entering 2016 with not only some familiar programs and events, but a few new ones as well.

We are on the countdown to 2,000 requested gowns completed and mailed to children across the United States and the globe, how exciting is that?! Never in my life, would I have imagined Gracie's Gowns to become something so far reaching and so meaningful to thousands of others across the globe. We are working on celebration ideas, but so far are coming up short. Any and all ideas are welcomed.

In April we are hosting our 3rd annual lantern release. This year's release will once again be held at The Farm Retreat at Willow Creek in Madison County, Virginia. We are inviting any families that are able to attend and would like to participate to join us. We should have a date later this month with more details, in the mean time, we are in the process of collecting names for the lanterns as well. If your child has received or requested a gown from Gracie's Gowns and has passed away, Please e-mail in order to make sure we have their name listed for our lantern release. Once there is a final count of the lanterns and colors, we will open it up to anyone who would like to have a lantern released for their child as we have done in the previous years.

Please continue to read farther down our newsletter, we have lots of exciting information listed, and programs available to the families we have and will serve throughout the coming years.

Throughout the month of January, Gracie's Gowns will be collecting Thirty-One Made in the Shade Pockets (one can order through the link) and filling them with gift cards to places surrounding the University of Virginia Children's Hospital. These will then be given to families with children inside the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Each visor can hold (5) gift cards, we will also be accepting donations of gift cards as well to place inside the visors, we are asking that a $5.00 limit be on each gift card.

Each visor costs $20.00 and UVA has a 14 bed PICU. Any additional will be given to families on 7 North/IMU and throughout the remaining units of the pediatric floor. In total UVA Children's Hospital has 111 pediatric beds.

Funds to purchase these items may also be donated directly to Gracie's Gowns through our website with UVA in the notes to seller section on whether it is for a visor or gift cards.

The Fresh & Messy Un-Diaper Bag is another great item that has been developed by the manufacturers of the back packs we use for TPN/Tube-Feed modifications. It helps replace the need for multiple bags (in some cases), with one pouch that attaches to any stroller, including adaptive ones! There are multiple storage compartments, they are easy to clean, and we will be placing a pre-order for them on February 22, 2016. Get Details Here on placing an order for one!
Our 2015 Quilt of the Year winner was drawn - the winner is Emily P. of Louisiana!!

We have started our 2016 Quilt of the Year already, as you can see the first few quilt blocks already assembled here. Tickets will be on sale all year long, they are $3.00 each, with the proceeds all year goings towards helping with shipping and fabric expenses. Last year we raised $651.00 throughout the year. Tickets are available here on our website.
Our first butterfly bead order has been submitted and they are already on the way to Gracie's Gowns! We've started a second order for those who missed the first batch and those who are new to Gracie's Gowns as well - to learn more click here or on the photo! These beads are a no cost program to those that participate with Beads of Courage, Bravery Beads, and other similar programs. This bead can be added to your strand to represent you have received a gown from Gracie's Gowns.
TPN/Tube Feed Back Packs are Back, but with not only a different back pack style, but new and improved modifications. Instead of a buttonhole for the tubing on the side, we will be using a grommet on the back panel, and each bag will also come with a detachable chest strap as well, which allows for even easier cleaning! Orders will close on February 22, 2016. Details here!
We are still pushing forward with the CHD Awareness License Plate initiative. It will not be presented in the 2016 Virginia General Assembly as we had originally hoped for, but we still have time to make it happen for the Virginia General Assembly Session in 2017. We need 435 more applications before we can continue to the Virginia General Assembly, more information is available here on our website, and I will more than gladly mail out applications to anyone who needs/wants them as well.
