Diana Adams Law & Mediation, PLLC

Greetings! Thank you for subscribing to the newsletter for Diana Adams Law & Mediation, PLLC. This newsletter keeps you informed about the legal and activism work we are doing to support LGBTQI, polyamorous, chosen families, and families of all kinds!

It’s been a few months since our last newsletter, and we have continued to work serving our clients and community.  We’re doing our best to take care of ourselves and each other, and to make sure that we are here for our clients to support them in doing the same.

Right now, with the election coming up and facing the unknowns of this Administration and a new Supreme Court, we’re focused on safety planning legal support: Focus on what you can control. We don’t know what’s coming next. We don’t know what state resources we can count on, or what the institutions that affect our social landscape are going to do. When we do safety planning with our own families and with our clients, we focus on using the things that we know we can rely on to make contingency plans for the things that we can’t control. We can help you create more legal security for your family that will give you peace of mind.  Get in touch with us if you would like to see how we can support you and your family during these trying and uncertain times.

Diana Adams on Good Morning America
Wednesday, October 7 at 8:00am Eastern/Pacific!

Our team’s work here at Diana Adams Law & Mediation, and also at our sister non-profit Chosen Family Law Center to support polyamorous and chosen families nationwide, has been getting a lot of attention in the news lately!

Diana was interviewed by Good Morning America about the rise of three parent families and the need for legal protections for them for the sake of kids in them.

The segment will air on Good Morning America this Wednesday, October 7th at 8:00-8:30am on ABC!  [Both 8am EST and PST]

Watch Good Morning America on ABC via regular network television, ABC.com or on Hulu (account required). If you miss it, check our CFLC social media for a video on Facebook or Twitter (and please give us a follow and share!).

How amazing that the topic of three parent families is making such mainstream news!

The Rise of the Three-Parent Family in The Atlantic
Diana Adams is not only the founder and Principal Attorney at Diana Adams Law & Mediation, PLLC, they are also the founder and Executive Director of Chosen Family Law Center and was recently interviewed for this article in The Atlantic on 3-parent families in that capacity:

"Diana says that interest in this option has been growing over the past 15 years, spurred by the increasing acceptance of queer families and the popularity of assisted-reproduction technologies...

...Just as marriage provides benefits that cohabitation doesn’t, legal tri-parenting creates stability and rights that less formal arrangements lack. According to Adams, in tri-parenting arrangements that aren’t legally recognized, a break between the two legal parents might mean that the third parent can be denied access or custody to the child, even if they’ve always been an important and beloved part of the child’s life. The nonlegal parent’s status is also vulnerable in the case of a tragedy—for example, if the two legal parents were to pass away without wills, and without formalizing the role of the third parent, a disapproving relative could take the child away and the third parent would have little legal recourse.

For Adams, tri-parenting is a way of reclaiming the “diversity and beauty of the queer community.” When it comes to queer rights, the big fight of past decades has been to legalize gay marriage, which has been significant, but has also played into the narrative that the two-parent family is and should be the default structure. “That has taken away some of the power of being able to live radically queer lives without needing to fit into a capitalist, patriarchal structure of a nuclear family."

We’re thrilled by this very positive coverage, and the linkage of the polyamory community and asexuality communities interests!
