Dear Uncommon New York City Families,

We hope you all had a restful and healthy Thanksgiving holiday. In this season of gratitude, we are so thankful and grateful for our Roxbury Prep team opening their doors for select students this past Monday! We are proud to celebrate this major milestone for our students, families, and the entire Uncommon community as we welcome students back to our Boston schools. This would not be possible without the continued support of every portion of our Uncommon community – and especially you, families! Thank you for your support as we continue to navigate this school year as we drive towards reopening in January.

School Updates

Parent/Guardian Survey Coming in January!

In early January, we will launch a brief survey for all parents and guardians. This is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts and feedback directly with us as we work to provide the highest quality schools for your child(ren). The survey will open on Monday, January 4th and close on Sunday, January 17th. You will receive a link to the survey via email once it opens. We look forward to hearing from you!

Meals During Reclosure:

While DOE school buildings remain closed, all families and students can go to any school building between 9a.m. and noon on weekdays to pick up three free grab-and-go meals. No identification or registration is necessary. Halal and kosher meals are available at some sites, which are listed at

If a student or family is unable to pick up meals from 9AM to 12PM, they can pick up meals from 3pm to 5pm at several community meal sites throughout the city. Community food sites can be found here. Please note that MOST schools will not be open from 3pm to 5pm for meal pickup, please check this link to find a location near you that will be open during the evening hours.

December is Emotional Wellness Month at Uncommon!

Emotional Wellness is the ability to deal with challenges in life, build positive relationships with others, and encourage the use of healthy coping skills. When we help our students learn the names of their feelings and how to express them in appropriate ways we are supporting their emotional wellness. By practicing emotional wellness we are reducing our stress, getting quality sleep, using healthy coping skills, and choosing a brighter outlook on life! Below are a few resources to help you and your family practice emotional wellness!
