Dear Troy Prep Families,

We write with a renewed feeling of hope as vaccinations become more readily available across all of our regions and as the weather becomes warmer. At the same time, we continue to feel upset and disheartened by the events around us -- mass shootings, increased violence against our Asian-American Pacific Islander community, and another tragic killing of a Black man, Daunte Wright, at the hands of the police.

During these times of challenge, we take solace in this community and we draw strength from seeing so many of our scholars now back learning and laughing in our classrooms. And we remain even more grateful for and committed to being a support to you and your children. Thank you for being a part of our Uncommon community.

COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility:

Governor Cuomo announced that New York State residents 16 or older are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as of Tuesday, April 6th. This announcement marks an important milestone after an unprecedented year. In alignment with the CDC, Uncommon encourages all eligible staff, families, and students to get vaccinated to support the health and safety of our communities.

New York State currently offers 2 FDA-approved vaccines. For more information on each vaccine, we encourage you to check out the CDC’s website here.

See below for more information about how to sign up for a vaccine appointment:

We recommend consulting with your family’s medical provider with further questions. For updates on vaccine eligibility, please find more information via our family website and the CDC.

Parent / Guardian Spring Survey:

Later this month we will launch our spring survey for all parents and guardians across our schools. As with our mid-year survey, this is a key opportunity for you to share your thoughts and feedback with us as we work to provide the best education for your scholar(s). The survey will open on Monday 4/26 and close on Sunday 5/9. We look forward to hearing from you!

Wellness Corner:

During the months of April, May, and June we will be sharing resources from all five of our themes this year – Intellectual, Physical, Emotional, Social, and Spiritual Wellness!

Support Funding of the Charter School Program (CSP):

New York's charter schools led the way in providing creative educational options during the pandemic with student learning gains outpacing other states across the nation. Charter schools are positively impacting children and their families and delivering game-changing outcomes for those students who need quality public schools the most. Despite so much forward movement, these facts remain: the future of charter school federal funding is still at risk.

This week is the deadline for letters to the House of Appropriations subcommittee that decides on education funding. Contact your congressional representative TODAY to make sure they don’t forget what is at stake. Help us protect public school options for students so that every child can go to a school that works best for them and meets their individual needs. New York's students are counting on us.

If you have any questions, please contact your school leaders.
