Dear Roxbury Prep Families,

Congratulations on kicking off the 2020-21 school year! Across our 55 Uncommon schools, the joy and resilience of our community is shining through as we launch into a school year unlike any other. Remote learning is off to a successful start with students participating in community meetings, connecting with friends and teachers, and exploring new books and ideas.

We have spent the summer preparing our schools for your child’s safe return (see photos above). We are so excited to welcome them back when we launch in person. As a reminder, remote learning will continue through at least October 5. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing more detailed information related to our launch of hybrid instruction. Thank you for your continued partnership as we navigate this new way of doing school and being in community together. We recognize how much you as parents and caregivers are juggling during these uncertain times and we appreciate YOU!

School Updates

High School Facility:

As our students dive into their new school year online, we at Roxbury Prep continue to organize to give them the facilities they need and deserve. As we continue this fight, we have come across misinformation from those who oppose our proposed school in Roslindale, focusing on our students and the project at 361 Belgrade Ave. We developed a long FAQ correcting the misinformation that can be found here.

The FAQ explains why Roxbury Prep’s facility at 361 Belgrade would have zero impact on Boston Public Schools, how the Roslindale community embarked on an exhaustive planning process many years ago that led to that parcel being zoned for a school, and how Roxbury Prep has turned around its discipline practices in the past several years, lowering suspension rates from 28% to 8%, with plans to drive that number even lower by furthering de-escalation training and restorative justices practices.

Thank you for your continued support and advocacy.

In solidarity,

Roxbury Prep High School Facility Team

Remote Learning Meal Distribution:

All Roxbury Prep families have the option of picking up breakfast and lunches at any Roxbury Prep school campus from 11am-1pm. Families can choose the day and site that works best for them and pick up meals for all Roxbury Prep students in their family at the same time. See below for the list of which campuses will be open each day. Each day, families will receive either two or three breakfasts and lunches for each student in their family enrolled at a Roxbury Prep school. To receive a full week of meals, plan to visit the same site twice per week. When you arrive at the pick-up, go to the front door or look for food service staff. If you have any questions, reach out to your school’s Director of Operations.

Resources

Wellness Corner - Student and Parent Wellness Activity:

The new school year is here and there is no better time to prioritize family wellness! We are excited to share with you resources related to child, parent, and family self-care. Self-care is about HOW you take care of yourself, not IF you do. It is really anything that we deliberately do (or refrain from doing) with our own well-being in mind.

Take some time to create a self-care plan for you, your child, and your family!
