Dear Rochester Prep Families,

In the last two weeks, we have been filled with hope: our nation witnessed a historic presidential Inauguration, the Biden-Harris administration has taken immediate actions to support our communities, and our schools in NYC, Boston, Rochester, and Troy have welcomed students back for in person learning. In Brooklyn, this is the first time our students have entered our buildings this school year. We are so excited for our students to have the option to be physically in school and we are so grateful to our leaders, teachers, ops and regional teams for making this possible. We continue to find hope in all of you – our 20,000 Uncommon families across our six regions – as you continue to parent through the pandemic and run along side our team as we support our students together. Thank you for continuing to persevere and inspire our Uncommon community.

On a different note, this newsletter will move from being bi-weekly to monthly start with the February 12th edition. Please continue to reach out to your school leaders.

Resources

Wellness Corner:

Please visit the Uncommon Virtual Calming Room to explore tools and strategies for managing emotions and feelings - all while having fun. We hope these tools will provide helpful outlets and practices for when life gets tough.

Get informed on COVID-19 Vaccine:

ABC7 NY’s Darla Miles hosted “COVID-19 and the Vaccine” webinar this past Sunday. Dr. Karma Warren, Dr. Pierre Vigilance, and Dr. Wayne Riley answered audience questions about the COVID-19 and communities of color, how to stay safe, and the different vaccine options. Take some time to watch and get informed about the COVID-19 vaccine.

Rochester Prep Family Champions Facebook Group:

We have launched a group on Facebook just for you. We will still maintain our public Facebook page and we encourage you to “like” it if you haven’t already. We will continue to post items about our school that are of interest to the general public. Our parents’ group is private and only open to parents. It will provide timely and accurate information specifically for Rochester Prep parents, such as announcements about school re-openings, COVID-19 testing availability and upcoming Family Champion meetings. As we continue to deal with the pandemic, it’s important for us to share information with you in as many ways as possible. We encourage you to join the group so that you can stay informed.

After you click on the link, you will be taken to a page on Facebook where you can request to join the group. You will be asked one question: whether you are a parent of a Rochester Prep student. Once you answer that, we’ll get notified and let you into the group.

Looking forward to seeing you on Facebook.

Help make sure NY schools are funded!

New York's public schools have faced unprecedented challenges this past school year, including increased costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Governor Cuomo has identified the need for $15 billion in federal aid in order to avoid cuts to education funding. Please join us in supporting the call for federal officials to provide an aid package that provides the necessary funds to stabilize state budgets and Fund NY Schools by clicking and sharing this link! Help support our schools!

If you have any questions, please contact your school leaders.

Sincerely,
The Rochester Prep Team
