NYC All-Campus Reclosure:
As we have shared over the last few months, Uncommon NYC abides by state and local guidance regarding closure decisions. In New York City, we have followed Mayor DeBlasio’s guidepost for schools, knowing we will close if and when a 3% city-wide 7-day rolling average of infection rates is reached. While we have been fortunate to remain below 3% this summer and Fall, as of Wednesday, 11/18, we have exceeded this threshold within New York City. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close our Uncommon NYC schools effective Thursday, 11/19. Although we are closing temporarily, our goal remains to provide in-person instruction to our families as soon as we are safely able to do so. We are actively working with the Department of Health and following their expert guidance to ensure the safety of our community. Over the course of the coming days/weeks, we’ll continue to work with state and local entities to evaluate COVID-19-related data and understand our timeline for reopening. We remain committed to reopening our buildings to staff and students as soon as it is safe to do so, and we will communicate with you all on our progress towards reopening as we learn more.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Main Office of your child’s school.
Meals During Reclosure:
While DOE school buildings remain closed, all families and students can go to any school building between 9a.m. and noon on weekdays to pick up three free grab-and-go meals. No identification or registration is necessary. Halal and kosher meals are available at some sites, which are listed at schools.nyc.gov/freemeals.
If a student or family is unable to pick up meals from 9AM to 12PM, they can pick up meals from 3pm to 5pm at several community meal sites throughout the city. Community food sites can be found here. Please note that MOST schools will not be open from 3pm to 5pm for meal pickup, please check this link to find a location near you that will be open during the evening hours.
