Dear Rochester Prep Families,

Earlier this week, leaders, teachers, and scholars at Troy Prep arrived at school ready for their first day of in-person learning. This “first” day of school looked unlike any other before – with social distancing markers and temperature checks alongside the usual back-to-school excitement – and it was an important reminder of who we are across all of our Uncommon cities.
As an Uncommon community we:

  • We focus on the most important work. In today’s world, that means health and safety. We are implementing best-in-class measures in order to make our schools as safe as possible.
  • We are stronger together. Our families and teachers are doing incredible work to make remote instruction possible, but we know that being together in person, interacting (at a safe distance) with our scholars, and getting back into our classrooms is where we thrive and can best support students.
  • We are One Uncommon. Getting to this day would truly not have been possible without the entire Uncommon team – families, students, teachers, leaders, operations, nurses, Home Office team members; every one of you played a crucial role in this work.
  • We stay true to who we are. Uncommon’s mission is to support our scholars to and through college. As always, the teachers and leaders in Troy created the joyful, rigorous, and safe learning environment you and your family have come to expect of us. Despite a global pandemic and all we have weathered these last 6 months, we will always deliver on our promise to our students.

We continue to plan for a safe, hybrid reopening in our other regions and look forward to welcoming students back to campus across our regions in the weeks to come.

School Updates

Reminder: Hybrid Learning begins Monday, 10/26:

We are counting down the days until we can be back together in person and have so enjoyed your engagement and participating as we kicked off remote learning the past five weeks! The health and safety of our students, families and staff is our top priority and we are writing to inform you that we will begin our hybrid in-person instruction for grades K-8 the week of Monday, October 26th. Our High School hybrid in-person instruction will begin the week of Monday, November 2nd. Aside from new directives from county or state officials, this date will not adjust again, and we look forward to serving our families that have requested an in-person option with this offering. Your child’s school will share more details on orientations and first week schedules in the coming weeks.

Attendance during Remote Learning:

Don’t forget! All Rochester Prep schools have begun taking attendance on remote learning days through Google Classroom. This new attendance procedure will make sure that the school has a consistent, timely method of taking attendance across all classrooms and grades each day. Each morning by 6:00am, we will post the Attendance Question in your Google Classroom.

  • By 3:00pm, your student must log into Google Classroom, and click on the assignment to report that they are present for remote learning that day.
  • Your student’s teacher will remind them to do this each morning during their first synchronous learning class, but please make sure you and your student get in the habit of completing this attendance check every morning they are participating in remote learning!

Wellness Corner: It’s Intellectual Wellness Month at Uncommon!

Every month, Uncommon will be celebrating a wellness theme. The month of October’s theme is Intellectual wellness. Intellectual wellness is when you think about and understand your talents. It includes doing activities that help grow your mind. You can take care of your mind by being creative, trying new things, and learning new things. Intellectual wellness involves having an open mind when you encounter new ideas and continuing to expand your knowledge. It encourages active participation in scholastic, cultural, and community activities.

This month, we encourage you and your family to complete the October Wellness Challenge below to practice and incorporate Intellectual Wellness into your day!
