Dear Roxbury Prep Families,

In the last two weeks, we have been filled with hope: our nation witnessed a historic presidential Inauguration, the Biden-Harris administration has taken immediate actions to support our communities, and our schools in NYC, Boston, Rochester, and Troy have welcomed students back for in person learning. In Brooklyn, this is the first time our students have entered our buildings this school year. We are so excited for our students to have the option to be physically in school and we are so grateful to our leaders, teachers, ops and regional teams for making this possible. We continue to find hope in all of you – our 20,000 Uncommon families across our six regions – as you continue to parent through the pandemic and run along side our team as we support our students together. Thank you for continuing to persevere and inspire our Uncommon community.

On a different note, this newsletter will move from being bi-weekly to monthly start with the February 12th edition. Please continue to reach out to your school leaders.

School Updates

Hybrid Launch Update:

As a reminder, we are continuing with our phased re-opening plan which began on January 20th with a select number of students attending in-person. We are excited to announce that all fifth grade students are now invited to take part in our in-person learning starting Monday, February 1st. If you have questions about your school’s hybrid learning plan, please check with your school leader. We will continue moving towards full hybrid learning as soon as conditions allow.

COVID-19 Testing in School:

Thank you for your continued partnership during this unprecedented school year. In an effort to  prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have been working closely with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) to offer free rapid COVID-19 testing for symptomatic staff and students participating in any type of in-person instruction.

While we have asked all students and staff who are sick to stay home, there may be members of our school community who first present symptoms while in school. Being able to test your child at school will not only expedite results and therefore help you determine next steps to protect your student and your family, but also provide some peace of mind that a test is available and can be delivered by a nurse if the need arises.

The COVID-19 Rapid Antigen COVID-19 Diagnostic Test is FDA approved and delivers results in 15 minutes. Our school nursing staff has been thoroughly trained on how to administer the test using a nasal swab. The decision to administer the test will be made by the school nurse, and you will be notified via phone call before your child is tested.

You will also be notified immediately of the test results.  If a student tests positive, the student will be sent home and must quarantine for at least 10 days and until at least 24 hours have passed with improvements in symptoms and no fever, without the use of fever reducing medications. If a student tests negative, they may also be sent home. Regardless of test result, you will be notified by the school regarding next steps to take with a healthcare provider. Roxbury Prep will report all test results to DPH and positive test results to DESE’s Rapid Response Help Unit.

For students who will be entering hybrid learning in January, you should have received an email from Project Beacon, a third party non-profit organization contracted by the state of Massachusetts to help us administer and report the tests. To give permission for your student to participate in the COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Diagnostic Test, including permitting the school to share the test result information with the Department of Public Health and Project Beacon, you must respond to this email and create a free account with Project Beacon.  [A paper permission form may be requested if you cannot access the online site.]

At Roxbury Prep, we are extremely grateful to our committed staff and families that continue to show great flexibility and resilience as we navigate through this school year. It takes all of us working together to contain the spread of this virus. If you have questions regarding the COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Diagnostic Test [or if you would prefer a paper permission form], please reach out to your campus’s Director of Operations. Lea en Español.

Reminder: P-EBT Benefits Available:

We want Roxbury Prep families to know that the P-EBT benefit has been extended for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. All students who attend Roxbury Prep are eligible to receive Pandemic-EBT funding to support families while their students are attending remote learning. You do not need to apply to receive this benefit. The balance will automatically be applied to your existing EBT card or an EBT card will be sent directly to you. Families should expect to receive the next set of funds sometime in late January. If you have questions about the P-EBT program or did not receive your funds, please review this website or reach out to Project Bread at (800) 645-8333 with questions.

Parent/Guardian Survey Thanks:

If your current Roxbury Prep student has a sibling that is eligible to attend, you must complete the application at by February 28, 2021 to receive sibling preference in our lottery.

By referring Roxbury Prep to your family and friends, you could be entered to win one of three $100 gift cards to Target!  To be entered to win:
