MICRODOTTING CAN CUT VEHICLE THEFT BY UP TO 50%, SAYS DATA DOT…….

What exactly is micro dotting? Microdots are tiny polyester particles inscribed with unique information linked to a specific asset. Each dot is no larger than 1mm and they are applied using a special adhesive.

This then acts as a deterrent to theft as no-one wants an item that can be traced back to the owner and organized crime do not want this risk brought into their distribution network. It is often difficult for the Police to trace the owner of recovered stolen goods.  Microdots will alleviate this problem in addition to enabling the owner to prove a particular item belongs to him.

One is able to microdot a vehicle, bicycles, electronic household items, paintings and antiques, laptops and cell phones, mag wheels, power tools – anything that is potentially attractive to thieves. Schools and Business’s are marking their computers, sports men and women microdot their equipment, the list is endless.  Currently all new vehicles are required to have microdots applied prior to purchase.

WHAT PROPERTY OWNERS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THEIR ELECTRIC FENCES :

Electric fence regulations were introduced in 1988 and have subsequently been reviewed a number of times.  All property owners who have electric fence installations are required to obtain a Certificate of Compliance issued by a registered installer and any fence found to be non-compliant or illegal could lead to statutory penalties such as fines or imprisonment.

In addition to this, an installation of an electric fence by a non compliant installer could lead to Insurers rejecting both damage and liability claims. Visible Warning Signs also need to be present and regular maintenance of the fence is required.

In the event of the change of ownership of a property, regulation specifically addresses a “user and lessor” and one needs to be clear on their responsibilities in this area.

Don’t wait for something unexpected to happen – make sure you understand the relevant regulations sooner rather than later.
Office news - Another brilliant run by Karen Green this year – her 6th Comrades run and a time of 10:31:41.
FIRE SEASON……

Our Howick Office have asked us to make a special mention to everyone regarding the high probability of fires in the next few months.  The Midlands area is very dry and we urge everyone to act responsibly when braaiing or discarding coals or burnt wood from inside fireplaces etc.

Firefighting equipment should be on hand in high risk areas and it is important for everyone to know how to use the equipment.

Again, we urge you to reconsider your sums insured to make sure you are adequately insured (buildings and contents).

And finally………….to end off our newsletter this month….

Remember that it is not only thieves who steal our possessions – a staff member recently baked a birthday cake only to have it stolen by monkeys who found their way into the kitchen!

Now you see it – now you don’t!  Beware – thieves are everywhere.
