Te Kōti Matua | Expert Witnesses
Te Kurataiaho Kapea lead our expert witnesses this week. His testimony focusses on Ngāti Whātua whakapapa and history. Te Kura delivered his entire testimony in te reo Māori. Read the translation provided by court appointed Rangi Pouwhare.
Takaparawhau Bastion Point is an important time in our history. Taiaha Hawke provides a first hand account of Takaparawhau and its significance today. He was accompanied in court by his parents, and original campaign leaders Joe & Rene Hawke.
Margaret Kawharu has worked extensively on Treaty of Waitangi claims. In her written testimony, Margaret gives a broader history of Ngāti Whātua and our experience of the Treaty Settlement process with the Crown.
Ngarimu Blair not only speaks to Ngāti Whātua Ōrakei’s history, but to continuing work to protect its settlement and have the Crown recognise Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei mana whenua. We will release Ngarimu's written testimony as soon as he finishes giving evidence in Court.

Over 100 students have entered the learnings of Toi Whātua kapa haka!  
Tata ki te whā rau tāngata kua kuhu ki ngā akoranga reo Māori o Toi Whātua!  Kei whea mai rā! Ka toha rauemi kounga o Whātua, rauemi hitōria o Whātua, rauemi mātauranga o Whātua hoki.  
Over 400 people have engaged in the learnings of Toi Whātua reo!  Absolutely amazing! Quality Whātua resources, historical Whātua resources, Whātua knowledge resources are being developed and shared.

Progress on Kainga Kaumātua!
If you live at Ōrākei you will have noticed plenty of action at Atareta with our Kāinga Kaumātua project underway. Our contractors continue to prep the site, including removing the round-a-bout at the end of the road, for construction to begin in March.

Our kāinga kaumātua project will see the construction of 10 new whare at Atareta place. The whare are designed to be warm, dry, low maintenance homes with easy access to our Marae on the Papakāinga
