Lids Open Day - The Glasgow Room
Saturday 4th March 2023

( 10am - 4pm )
The Mitchell Library, North St Entrance, G3 7DN
This will be our first 'Lids Open Day' of 2023 and over 3 years since we have run an event in the Glasgow Room at the Mitchell Library. There will be a beautiful 12ft Daneman concert grand piano to play that has won over many players and been named as their favourite.  All going well, we will be joined by a guest pianist there on the day, Ugnius Pauliukonis, who wandered into our Shawlands shop last week and road tested a few of our pianos. We look forward to listening to Ugnius play at the end of the day. As usual, everyone will have around 12 mins playing time ( 15 mins max ).. Even though there is no booking system for this event, please register your interest to participate and a rough time of when you intend to arrive by emailing us at: info@glasgowpianocity.org
Getting there: The Glasgow Room is near the North St entrance to the MItchell Library, up a set of steps. Charing Cross train station is across the road ( with the M8 below ) and the Firstbus (3) stops nearby, round the corner on Berkeley Street. See map opposite

Piano Practice Rooms
In case you did not know . . . there are 5 acoustic pianos of varying quality, including 2 relatively new black and shiny Yamaha uprights ( rooms 6 & 9 ) up on the 4th floor in the Music Dept. of the Mitchell. Anyone with a library card can use them to practice piano ( or any instrument you bring ) for an hour or more at a reasonable cost. I have used these rooms for over 30 years, though in the 80's they were free. Previously, we had permission to run a voucher scheme for people with no disposable income who still wanted to play.
Event Info: The Pyramid at Anderston PANDORA'S BOX Silent Movie
One of our partners, The Pyramid at Anderston, with it's distinctive green roof is bringing Neil Brand to provide a live score for the film, Pandora's Box. Neil is a celebrated silent movie accompanist and this will be an excellent antidote to Valentine's Day.
The Next Ten Years
2023 will be our 10th year of piano shenanigans and we are looking forward to how this project will evolve over the next 10 years  . . . so let's start with a short film, including footage from our last LOD and the first one at Springburn Auditorium in Sep 2022. We had some lovely improvising from Harry & David that was totally off the cuff. See them in action below.. It has been a good start to the year for our project and it is well worth mentioning that we have been invited to provide a piano for Chipping Norton Town Hall in Oxfordshire. Thanks to Tania, Ben & Eric for purchasing a WELMAR upright from us and giving their 90 strong choir our latest, piano installation a wee bit beyond the Glasgow boundary . . . the first of many..
