BAR ASSEMBLY pop-up restaurant, Biennale interieur, kortrijk, BELGIUM

The anonymously judged competition for cutting-edge bar concepts for the Biennale INTERIEUR 2014 - Spaces category Awards, threw up an international mix of prize and honorable mention winners heralding from Sweden, Italy, Greece, Germany, Belgium, Latvia and Japan.

Bar Assembly, a concept by Leonidas Trampoukis and Eleni Petaloti of Greece based architecture and design firm LoT, has been awarded an honorable mention among over 70 competitors from 18 countries.

LoT presented a minimal concept for an open communal space built almost exclusively from structural timber. The framework creates the distinct feeling of enclosure without removing the space from the visual and acoustical energy of the larger expo. Beyond the design of the structure itself, the simple, unifying approach extends to the lighting design, the selection of food and the project’s graphic identity.

The food concept, bare and essential in its ingredients yet rich in its flavor, is a harmonious blend of local organic tastes. Graphically, the fundamental triangular geometry of the structure is translated into the logo with a simple tilted gesture.

LoT is an award winning architecture and design studio based in Greece and New York. Led by Leonidas Trampoukis and Eleni Petaloti, LoT develops ideas that engage architecture and design,
arts and culture, nature and artifice.

With a global range and international experience in both architecture and art, LoT focuses on applying strong design concepts with consciousness and pragmatism.

LoT works on an array of projects ranging in scale and complexity from objects and installations to spaces and buildings of high-capacity public architecture. Architectural practice acts as the office’s core foundation, but LoT also frequently explores related disciplines through concept and materiality.
Recent projects include a new student residence in Greece, a pop-up restaurant in Belgium, a museum for an artist residency program in Michigan US, and an open air beach club in Mykonos.

LoT’s work has received numerous awards, including the Best Project of the Year Award at DOMES International Review of Architecture Awards, 2012, and a mention award at the international architecture competition for the new Aurinkokivi school in Finland.  LoT was recently shortlisted for the Piranesi Award 2013.
LoT has also been featured in press, and presented in exhibitions worldwide, most notably at the Venice Architecture Biennale (2004), the Biennale of Young Greek Architects (2010, 2012), and the Salone Internationale de Mobile in Milan (2009).
