Letter from Allison:

Dear Families,

It's the time for us all to come together again in celebration of our children’s work. Please join us on Thursday (12/17) at 8:45 am for a special, all-school community meeting where we will sing together and celebrate Winter. This special event will be quickly followed by a visit to your child’s classroom to see what they have been up to at Blue School. At 9:30 am, we’ll invite parents to walk around the school to see children's work throughout the school in other classrooms. It’s a wonderful morning, and a great way to celebrate the end of the calendar year before we say goodbye for two weeks.

We hope to see you (regardless of age or whether your program is in session at that time) in the Commons at 8:45 am on Thursday the 17th!

- Allison

News & Weekly Recap

10 Days of Extreme Giving Update

During the "10 Days of Extreme Giving", we were able to raise more than $200,000 for tuition assistance and increased our parent participation in the Annual Fund from 30 to 75 percent. We're so proud of our Blue School community for answering the call to action.  There is still time to give!

Picasso at MOMA

This past Monday, our whole Pre-primary faculty visited the Picasso exhibit at MOMA to look at Picasso’s different materials and uses for inspiration. Check out these photos!

Reminder about Monday, December 14

There will be NO Community Meeting in The Commons on Monday morning.  Additionally, Kirk Simon's Documentary film crew will be joining us to film at Blue School again.

Parent Math Workshop
Monday, December 14 at 9 am
Studio on 6th Floor

In this parent math workshop, we will discuss the development of children's numeracy, with a specific focus on skills and concepts related to addition and subtraction. We will use common classroom math routines to experience and better understand what this topic looks likes beginning in Kindergarten all the way through 5th grade. This workshop is open to parents with children of all ages, though the focus is on primary grades.  As always, we will do math together as adults and discuss the mathematics of Blue School classrooms.

Yearbook Committee Meeting
Tuesday, December 15 after drop off

There will be a yearbook committee meeting on Tuesday, December 15 after drop off at Acqua.

Wednesday, December 16 at 9 am

Studio on the 6th floor

For parents of 3rd and 4th grades:  Join Harriet Richards, the Child Development Counselor and Alice Mangan, the Consulting Psychologist to discuss Executive Function in children. What is it? What role does it have in your child's school life? How can parents support the development of executive function?

Vacation Schedule Input

Please reply and record your response to the question about next year’s vacation schedule. We want to hear your input and thoughts regarding
2016-17 school year vacation calendar. The link is also here.

We recently sent an email regarding a switch to a two-week break in March rather than one week in February and one in April. We appreciate your input and will take it into account. We know that some of you will be disappointed by our decision but we hope to make a thoughtful choice that is for the best for children’s learning.
