Hi <<First Name>>, another month goes past and it's time for another update.

If you haven't been to our website recently, or picked up any of our new handouts, you might not have seen our logo and website redesigns.  We're hoping the new look gives us a more 'grown up' image whilst also making it easier to find the things you want.

The website is still a work-in-progress so please let us know if you find any problems or errors (the gallery section is still to be overhauled), and we always appreciate feedback or suggestions for improvement.

On a more sombre note some of you will know Emma's sister unfortunately and unexpectedly lost her boyfriend recently to SDS (Sudden Death Syndrome) a condition which sees 12 young people pass away suddenly EVERY WEEK.

For the foreseeable future our chosen charity will therefore be C-R-Y (Cardiac Risk in the Young) and if you would like to make any donations, even if you didn't know Ben, then there is a page specifically set up by his family.  We will let you know about any fundraising events we plan to organise in the future.

Social Dancing
Afternoon Tea Dances starting today (Wednesday)

We are introducing a brand new afternoon tea dance session.

Our tea dances are a chance to come along and practice your dance moves in a friendly social atmosphere, or just a chance to catch up with friends over a cuppa.

The sessions will run weekly on a Wednesday afternoon, 2pm-3.45pm at our Eton Wick Venue.

The sessions cost £3.50 per person and there is a voluntary contribution towards tea and coffee.

Please visit the website or contact us if you'd like more information.

MindBody Logo
New Online Booking System Coming Soon

We are partnering with MindBody online to bring you a brand new online booking system for our classes/private lessons and social events.

This will allow us to streamline and speed up the checking-in process when you come to classes as well as allowing you to keep track
of the sessions you attend, along with any advance booking sessions you purchase.

Private lessons will also be able to be booked and paid for online directly.

Antony is currently in the process or setting up the software and we will notify you all when it goes live.

Registering for the online system has additional benefits as we will be introducing a points redemption for registered users where things such as attending classes or recommending new students will award you points that you can use to pay for our products and services.

More details will be released, along with how to register for the system, once it is ready to go live.

Paso Doble
Paso Doble to be dropped from regular schedule

Whilst we very much enjoy teaching the Paso Doble we always like to offer dances that are useful to our students outside of our Ballroom Dance socials.

The Paso whilst a competitive requirement is not generally danced socially.

As such we have decided to move it from the regular class schedule to a more one-off workshop dance (along with some other new ones - more details later)

Replacing the Paso Doble in our syllabus will be
the Merengue [Mer-ren-gay], a dance from the Dominican Republic which has a 2/4 time signature just like the Paso but is a completely different style and can be danced to a variety of modern songs, as well as traditional Merengue music.

In advance of this dance being phased in we are holding a special one-off 'Introduction to Merengue' Workshop on Sunday 23rd June, details of which you can find later in this newsletter.

We hope those that enjoyed the Paso Doble aren't too disappointed, but the number of participants in workshops and socials suggested to us that Paso just wasn't a popular enough dance.  If you really miss it there's always private lessons.

Group Class
Beginner Samba Workshop

Our next beginner workshop will be the Samba on Sunday 16th June at the Eton Wick Village Hall.

Samba is the Brazilian 'carnival' dance and is a fun, high energy dance.

Our beginner workshops run from 1.30pm-3.30pm and cost £20 per person (£30 for a couple dancing together).

They cover the basics of the dance as well as trying to give you a basic routine you can use to get around the floor.

Workshops are a great way to concentrate on learning just one dance.

Tenpin Bowling Ball
Over 50's Tenpin Bowling

Our next Tenpin Bowling afternoon is on Thursday 20th June. It's £2pp for 2 games of bowling and a tea or coffee.

The afternoon runs from 2pm-5pm at Tenpin, Salt Hill Park, Slough and you're welcome to come along just to socialise and have a drink if you don't want to bowl.

Introduction to Merengue Workshop

Our new dance replacing the Paso Doble will be the Merengue [Mer-ren-gay].  Before we start to phase the dance in we thought we'd give you a little taster on Sunday 23rd June in Eton Wick.

We hope to make these type of one-off workshops a regular thing, giving you the opportunity to try different dances that we can't fit into the regular schedule.

Provisionally scheduled classes include the Merengue on 23rd June, American Smooth on 14th July, Charleston on 11th August and Mambo on 15th September.

These introduction workshops run from 1.30pm-3.30pm and cost £20 per person (£30 for a couple dancing together).

They cover the basics of the dance as well as trying to give you a basic routine you can use to get around the floor.

Workshops are a great way to concentrate on learning just one dance.

We expect these workshops to be quite popular so advance booking is recommended as spaces are limited.

Sequence Dancing
Sequence Dancing Workshop

The aim of these workshops is to teach you some of the classic popular sequence dances such as Mayfair Quickstep, Rumba One, Catherine Waltz and Saunter Together.

The workshop will run from 1.30pm-3.30pm and cost £20 per person or £30 for a couple dancing together.  They take place at our Eton Wick venue.

Sequence dances are popular at balls and dances and we like to give you every opportunity to dance where possible.

Our next workshop is on Sunday 30th June and will recap the Sally-Ann Cha Cha as well as covering the Catherine Waltz.

Group Class
Quickstep Master Class

We have decided to reduce the length of our Master Classes to 2 hours.  Our next Master Class will be the Quickstep on Sunday 4th July, 1.30pm-3.30pm in Eton Wick.

These master classes concentrate on the technique of the dance in more detail, as well as looking at more difficult steps or complicated sequences that we don't generally cover in our other dance classes.

If you're interested in attending please let us know. The classes cost £20 per person.

Next Exam Session & Inter-School Competition

Learn To Dance offers exams under the NATD (National Association of Teachers of Dancing).  Our next exam session will be held on Sunday 27th October in our Eton Wick venue.

Exams are a great way to give yourself a target in your learning.  Our starter exams are very easy and are designed to give you an experience of the exam scenario, as well as the confidence to push your dancing further.

The exams start from £14 and generally at least a few private lessons are recommended to prepare.  When you pass an exam you receive your grade form with marks and feedback, a certificate, and a medal (dependant on exam entered).

The completion of exams also opens up the possibility of entering Inter-School Competitions, a chance to compete against other students at the same grade from other schools.

The next competition takes place on Sunday 10th November at the K2 Leisure Centre, Crawley, RH11 9BQ.  Entrance is £10 per person and even if you aren't interested in competing you can always come along and support the students that are.

We may look into organising group transport if enough students are interested in attending, so let us know if you'd like to come along.
