Congratulations to everyone on another successful first term.
We have a number of inspiring mentee stories for you, but first we would like to share the good news regarding the Western Cape systemic results.

We saw a marked improvement in results across all twelve schools that we supported as part of the WCED’s 100 School’s project in 2017.
Circuit Manager for the Khayelitsha area, Mr Rampersad, visited one of our schools, Ludwe Ngamlana Primary to handover three awards certificates for 2017 Systemic results. Two for Foundation Phase in Mathematics and Language and one for Intermediate Phase in Language. During his speech he highlighted a shout out to Edupeg for a reliable partnership, and observable improvement in their systemic results for 2017. Teachers were proud of their achievements and committed to working harder. Well done to all our schools who worked really hard to improve their results.
Shout out to Earthchild Project for putting together another fabulous Teachers Wellness Convention - a day to celebrate all our unsung heroes with workshops including yoga and dance, health, nutrition and diet, meditation and stress management and healing massage treatments. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended and they left feeling relaxed, revitalised and inspired.
As a first year teacher Edupeg has helped Ms Njwaxu overcome her challenges by providing support in managing her classroom effectively and improving learner discipline. “Now that I am supported by Edupeg my classroom is disciplined compared with other classes who do not have the Edupeg support. The performance of the learners has improved in the classroom as well in the assessments.”
Mrs Mhlongo is very grateful for taking part in the Edupeg programme as she had an assignment on Generic Teaching and Learning in the Education Context she had to complete and was so confident going into it. She told her Edupeg mentor, Nobuntu Makhaye (pictured right), that her knowledge and application of the Culture of Error and Checking for Understanding techniques helped her a lot when doing her assignment. And it certainly did, she scored 37 out of 40. A fantastic result!

Practice Over Preaching

“Before I joined Edupeg, I thought I knew everything regarding my subject since I was trained and taught for thirty years and attended many workshops. At first I did not see the need for me to get mentorship. The techniques I learned brought back the discipline without shouting. They brought back enthusiasm and a love of the subject between the teacher and the learners. Now I am a change agent.” Ms Nobanzi

Novice Teacher Grows and Improves
"As a novice teacher I am benefiting greatly from the Edupeg mentorship programme. First of all I use to shout at my learners the whole day through as I did not know what else to do. When Teach Like a Champion techniques came along with my mentor, I finally felt like I was in control of my class. Techniques such as Threshold, Entry Routine, STAR and Do Now brought back order and discipline in my classroom." Ms Vice
We are thrilled to share this news with you. Standard Bank’s show, Your Next Million, which aired on SABC 1 awarded us with R50 000 towards our project. A massive thank you to Standard Bank for recognising the important work that we do in our schools and for playing a part in our journey. This generous donation will help us in our next steps to continue improving and strengthening our support and mentorship to primary school teachers in their classroom environment and positively influencing their learners. As we move forward into the next phase of the year we look forward to further growth, success stories and consolidation with all our valued partners.
