Sustainability for the holidays!

We wish you a happy holiday!!!  This is a wonderful time of year to focus on friends and family, and share food and love.   Here are some tips from the experts on making your holiday sustainable!
  • Use natural materials for decorations, remember popcorn chains on the tree? Things that are nearby and can be composted will reduce our footprint.
  • Use treasured decorations again and again.
  • Give home-made gifts -- we used to give "coupon books" such as one dishwashing session, one hour of organizing your office, or 10 free hugs!
  • Use re-usable wrapping. Make some paper bags look fancy, sew up some holiday bags using fabric, or use boxes, or wrap with newspaper.
  • Give an experience gift rather than things. Recently NPR featured a study that showed spending money on experiences made people happier than money spent on things.

New sustainability coordinator -- hiring process in place!

As many of you know, Susan Millhauser, our beloved city SAB coordinator, chose to leave the position this July. She is happily tending to her children in Portland.

We are pleased to let you know that the city is in the process of hiring a new coordinator. This position will be a two year fellowship. The city has received around 150 applicants and will be interviewing in early January! We will let you know when it is time to welcome our new coordinator!!
