Thank You!

We would like to extend a Thank You to everyone who came out to our Meet & Greet on January 7th and to our Members' Luncheon Meeting on January 14th.

We continue to strive to put on meaningful events and bring in relevant speakers for our Members' Luncheon Meetings.

Members' Luncheon Meeting

We kicked off 2015 Members' Luncheon Meeting with Evelyn Pollock from Klondike Development Organization. Evelyn provided a presentation on Placemaking and its relation to Dawson City. Placemaking is a multi-faceted approach to planning, design and management of public spaces. It capitalizes on a local community's assets with the intention of creating public spaces that promote people's health, happiness, and well-being through the openness, aesthetics, and social offerings of a place ( We would like to thank Evelyn for the presentation and the discussion it fostered.

Next month's presentation is brought to you by CIBC in partnership with Global Payments. A representative from Global Payments will provide a presentation on the services they offer. More information on February's Members' Luncheon Meeting will be provided in upcoming newsletters.

A reminder that all members are encouraged and welcome to attend these monthly meetings. For more information on upcoming presentations contact the office by phone: 993-5274 or by email:

BBBS Dawson is looking for support from local businesses to sponsor the program. How? If an employee is interested in participating in the program, your business can sponsor them by releasing them for one paid hour to meet with their mentee. In this way, we have more available mentors during school or after school times. Your business would be thanked and mentioned across any events or postings BBBS does in Dawson.

In partnership with the Robert Service School, School Council and Tr’ondek Hwëch'in Education, the Big Brothers Big Sisters program continues this 2014-2015 school year! We continue to look for dedicated volunteers to serve as Mentors for school-aged Mentees. Mentors must be aged 18 or older.
The program aims to:

  • Provide a role model and friend
  • Promote healthy relationships with friends and family
  • Build trust and self-confidence to support healthy decisions, such as staying in school
  • Encourage independent thinking and leadership skills
  • Have fun!
The two types of programs are in-school mentorship (1x/week during school for an hour) or community mentorship (after school or on weekends, 2-3x/month).

If you or anyone you know is interested, please contact the Mentorship Coordinator at or RSS at 867-993-5435
Thanks for your support, Dawson!
