And when you send a male slave out from you a free person, you shall not send him out empty-handed. Provide liberally out of your flock, your threshing floor, and your wine press, thus giving to him some of the bounty with which the Lord your God has blessed you.
--Deuteronomy 15:13-14

Releasing a slave from servitude is not enough. When you give someone their freedom, don’t send them away with empty pockets. How will they rebuild their life and re-enter the economy? Give them freedom and freely give from your bounty to help him make a fresh start. Jubilee isn’t only about setting people free, but setting them on a path toward a viable and vibrant life in their community.
