Jesus had just read the Jubilee passage from Isaiah 61. Jesus stuns them with his commentary – today it is fulfilled. Today this economic policy will be enacted? There will be a grand reversal of the haves and have-nots? Today – Jesus is the embodiment of Jubilee? What would it mean to say Jesus incarnates an economic policy where people get their freedom and land back? One thing is clear; jubilee is for today according to Jesus.
