And you shall hallow the fiftieth year and you shall proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you: you shall return, every one of you, to your property and every one of you to your family.
-- Leviticus 25:10

Jubilee can seem so foreign to us – forgiving debts, allowing servants to go free, even handing over the land deed to the original owners who had a bad go of it in the rough and tumble of the economy. But here is the heart of the economic practice – return to your land and return to your family. Bad economies force family members to scatter. God has always known that just economies make for strong families.
