Bumper Summer for Morecambe Bay

New Bay Cycle Way to launch in June

After several years of hard work, vision, and partnership working, we are delighted to announce that the brand new Bay Cycle Way will officially launch in June and we'd love you to be a part of the celebrations - whether you're a cyclist or not - find out how below. 

There is also a busy programme of events planned, including a butterfly walk at Warton Crag and a talk and walk looking at the Bay's intriguing marine life. Throw into the mix some specialist workshops for those of you with an interest in exploring the secrets of the Bay's past, through the use of old maps, archives, and photos, and a raft of sociable beachcleans, and you've got summer sorted!

Glasson Dock Family Fesitval

Bay Cycle Way launch
Sunday 14 June, Glasson Dock
1.30-5pm

Join in the fun and festivities to celebrate the launch of the Bay Cycle Way and to welcome the inaugural ride of the route into the Dock after their 4-day cycling extravaganza.

There will be lots going on for all the family including live music, face-painting, balloon-bike modeling, smoothie bike, bling your bike and cycling freebies.

Plus pick up a map of the route and meet the organisations who have brought this fabulous new route to Morecambe Bay.

Ride the Route

4 day Morecambe Bay cycle ride
Thursday 11 - Sunday 14 June

We'd love you to join us & our partners Sustrans over the four days of this inaugural ride of the Bay Cycle Way.

You can join one or all of the days - from the big send off from Walney Island, Barrow, all around the Bay to Glasson Dock, taking in Ulverston, Witherslack, Cartmel, Grange, Arnside, Silverdale & Lancaster. 

If you'd like to ride one of the days of this wonderful new route, which are organised by Sustrans, please find out more and sign up today.

Not up to a whole day in the saddle? Join the Musical Celebration Ride for Families - Sun 14 June leaving Millennium Bridge, Lancaster 2pm, arriving at Glasson for the Family Festival at 3pm.

Have you seen the Yellowfish yet? 

The Yellowfish Scheme has been launched In Barrow to raise awareness about sources of water pollution. Pollutants entering drains can cause pollution on beaches and affect bathing waters. Most road drains and surface drains are designed to carry only rain water. Pouring pollutants down these drains is like pouring them straight into the river.

It’s a simple reminder ‘Only rain down the drain’. Find out more

Become a history detective 

Dates throughout June

We’re looking for volunteers to help us research some of the Bay’s most intriguing archaeological sites, starting with Jenny Brown's Point, Silverdale, and Warton Crag.

Learn how to read old maps, use archives and interpret aerial photos.
Workshops will be over 4 Tuesdays in June and there will also be a site visit.

Free. Booking essential.
