The CFPB just published a report that confirms why the work that CBA members do-- in helping their clients to build credit-- is so important.

They found that 26 million Americans are “credit invisible.” This figure indicates that one in every 10 adults does not have any credit history with a nationwide consumer reporting agency (NCRA). The report also found that Black consumers, Hispanic consumers, and consumers in low-income neighborhoods are more likely to have no credit history with a NCRA or not enough current credit history to produce a credit score.

The report also found that:
  • 19 million consumers have unscored credit records;
  • consumers in low-income neighborhoods are more likely to be credit invisible or to have an unscored record; and
  • Black and Hispanic consumers are more likely to have limited credit records.
You can read the full report here.

Funding Opportunity: Assets for Independence (AFI) Demonstration Program
The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Office of Community Services (OCS) is seeking applications for the Assets for Independence (AFI) demonstration program.

Understanding the AFI Program: A webinar on May 13th introduced AFI program requirements, which gives applicants important context for their project design and application. It also invited prospective applicants to think through how AFI IDAs fit their organizations, communities, and clients. This webinar is most useful for first-time applicants and organizations with new staff. This webinar can be viewed in the archives at this link.
