and many, many thanks for your continuing support for CRU and Maria’s Care.
We are delighted to be able to report that 2016 begins on a very optimistic note with Maria’s Care established in a strong position to build for the future. God has been extremely good and led the trustees of both CRU and Maria’s Care through tough times to a place where we can begin once more to invest in the development of the work in Uganda.
Special thanks must go to the trustees of Maria’s Care – Rita, Henry and Celia –
who have worked very hard to establish accountability and secure financial systems which will serve well into the future.
They are all busy people carrying out their own very responsible jobs elsewhere, but have a real heart for all that is happening at Maria’s Care.
The NGO trustees visited Maria’s Care together at the beginning of December 2015 and spent a very productive time discussing a broad range of issues with the Headteacher and then with all the staff.
At the school things are going well. The new management team, which has been in post for 12 months, is now established and working well together.
Annett (Accountant), Fred (Deputy Head Administration/Bursar) and Dan (Headteacher) are committed not only to high quality education, but also to pastoral and spiritual care of all the children at the school. Dan has voiced his commitment to improving academic achievement across all subjects as his own priority.
As a result of the fresh approach to everything at Maria’s Care it has been possible to improve the facilities within the compound, a work which will go on into 2016. As a result of your continuing financial support and sponsorship, new playground equipment has been installed, the clinic and water storage tank have been refurbished, and many rooms in the buildings have been re-painted - including the Headteacher’s accommodation – and re-roofing has begun.
Events in 2016
2016 marks 20 years of Christian Relief Uganda. On 23 April 2016 there will be a 20th Anniversary Concert which will be both a celebration and a fundraising event. Please put this in your diary: more information will follow shortly.
In August 2016 it is expected that there will be another Uganda Experience trip when a group of people will visit Maria’s Care and other places in Uganda. Please contact Rhona Marshall as soon as possible if you are interested in joining the group.
One of the results of the recent recession has been that charities, especially smaller ones, have experienced a reduction in funding: that has been the experience of CRU. As a result, funding has settled at a lower level than previously, and our support for development and projects at Maria’s Care has been more limited than before.
We continue to be grateful for the commitment of many of you to the support of CRU and Maria’s Care. However, it would be great if you felt able to increase your giving to CRU in the new year – any increase, small or large, would be gratefully received. In addition, we would ask you individually to work as “fundraisers” for CRU by encouraging your friends and family to think about supporting CRU in the future.
As ever, we are more than happy to come and talk to anyone about how to support CRU and Maria’s Care.
New CRU Website
One of the things we have been doing over the past months has been thinking about refreshing the CRU website. We are now in a position to re-launch the site with a new look-and-feel.
On, or shortly after, Monday 4 January 2016 the new site will appear under the same site name christianreliefuganda.org
When you look at the site you will find that some of the content is the same, but that will all be updated over the next couple of weeks. We would ask you to bear with us as we complete the task and allow the new site to bed-in. After that, we would value any comments which would help us provide what is needed by you, our supporters.
We will keep in touch with you over the coming days and will let you have the name of the trustee who will be managing the site in future and will be happy to receive your comments.
