Open PHACTS Foundation Updates

Dear <<First Name>>,

After many months of hard work, we are excited to announce that SureChEMBL data is now available through the latest version of Open PHACTS!

Try out Open PHACTS API 2.1 with SureChEMBL data now

We've created brand new calls in API 2.1 that allow you to query data and relationships from over 3.6 million life science patents, spanning from 1975 to 2015, via the Open PHACTS Discovery Platform.

Not just data extraction

As well as SureChEMBL chemistry annotations, the Open PHACTS dataset includes annotations of biological entities such as genes and diseases. We've developed a custom RDF data model to link all these entities to each other and to relevant patents, allowing you to carry out powerful queries across the whole set of linked data – and of course the other datasets in Open PHACTS.

The Open PHACTS and ChEMBL teams have also developed and validated algorithms to assess the relevance of entities in each patent. Instead of wading through a long and noisy list of results, our new API calls give you the ability to find only patents where the subject of your query is a "key" entity within the document.

You can find more information about the value added to SureChEMBL data in the Open PHACTS Discovery Platform in the release notes on our support portal.

Need help upgrading?

SureChEMBL API calls are only available through version 2.1 of our API, which means you'll need to update your workflows to reap the benefits of all this new data. We will also be decommissioning API version 1.5 by the end of June 2016, so this is a good time to make sure your workflows don't rely on any older API calls.

To make this and future upgrades easier, we've recently introduced version-independent URLs for all of our API calls. From now on, making an API call to a URL of the form[...] will forward your API call to the latest public instance of that call.

Upgrade to our version-independent URLs now to ensure that you will always be accessing the most up-to-date version of the Open PHACTS Discovery Platform. If you have any questions about upgrading please let us know and we'll be happy to help.

As always, we also welcome any other feedback or comments at any time.

All the best,
Nick Lynch
