Open PHACTS Foundation Newsletter

Dear <<First Name>>,

After five incredible years, the Open PHACTS project has finally come to a close. We at the Open PHACTS Foundation would like to offer a huge thank you to everyone who has been a part of this project, and to everyone who came to our conference last month to celebrate its completion.

For those who couldn't make it to Vienna, you can find a summary of our conference, titled Linking Life Science Data: Design to Implementation, and Beyond, on our website.

As we look back over the project's achievements, we realise that the real backbone of the Open PHACTS project has been its community – or more specifically, the vision and passion of the people in that community. Which is why we're reaching out to you as members of that community to be part of the next stage of Open PHACTS.

Joining the Foundation

Open PHACTS Foundation membership isn't just for big pharma! We welcome anyone with an interest in the future of Open PHACTS to contact us about getting involved. What's important to us is ensuring that the Open PHACTS Discovery Platform continues to meet the needs of the researchers who rely on it. And that means working with people from all sectors of life science research.

So whether you're an academic institution, SME, or brand new start-up, we are very happy to discuss what kind of membership package would work best for you. Contact us now about joining the Open PHACTS Foundation.

Webinar series: Science and Open PHACTS

Now that the Open PHACTS project is complete, we'd like to open our regular discussions about using Open PHACTS for science up to the whole community, with a series of monthly webinars.

Webinars will begin with an update on new developments, and a short presentation on one of the key features or datasets of Open PHACTS. After this, all participants will be encouraged to share their questions, comments and ideas. Join in to learn more about how the latest Open PHACTS Discovery Platform developments can help you and your research.

Platform updates

SureChEMBL access through the Open PHACTS API is almost here! Our Foundation members have already started trying out new patent-related API calls, and we are very excited about releasing this update to the wider community. Integrated SureChEMBL data will include bio annotations of all patents for diseases and targets, giving you real programmatic access to this vast source of knowledge.

You may have heard the news that ChEMBL 21 was released last week, with many millions of new data entries. We are already preparing to refresh our datasets with this and other updates, to make sure the Open PHACTS Discovery Platform is as up-to-date as it can be.

Other developments we are working on include updates to WikiPathways, and brand new KNIME nodes to integrate into your research workflows.

Finally, don't forget that we will soon be decommissioning version 1.4 of the Open PHACTS API. That makes this a great time to upgrade to version 2.0! Please don't hesitate to get in touch with our CTO, Nick Lynch, if you have any questions about upgrading.

As always, we welcome your feedback or comments at any time.

All the best,
Bryn Williams-Jones
