2nd Governing Board Meeting

Important decisions taken about the future of the Textile Flagships initiative - ETP General Assembly fixed for 31 March 2014
On 26th November the ETP's Governing Board came together for its 2nd meeting in Brussels. The Board members assessed and welcomed the positive progress since the operational start of the new ETP in the summer of 2013. The 7 Textile Flagship action plans were principally approved and after a final review round will be finalized at the end of 2013. The Flagships will then move into the implementation phase in parallel to the start of HORIZON 2020. It was concluded that a stronger direct involvement of companies must still be promoted. The ETP General Assembly will take place in the late afternoon of 31 March 2014 in the margins of the 2014 ETP annual public conference in Brussels.

Year-end message from the Textile ETP Secretariat

The year 2013 has brought a fresh start for the European Textile Technology Platform. Thanks to a lot of effort, collaborative spirit and forward-looking initiative from many sides we can look back at a successful year which provides a sound basis for 2014. The HORIZON 2020 Programme is now a reality. It will provide the textile sector with numerous opportunities for funding industry-oriented textile research and even projects that can go very near the market. Nevertheless the competition for these precious funding opportunities will be as fierce as ever and we will need a lot of intelligence, dedication and good collaboration to succeed. We will need to smartly combine our competences and resources across Europe to show to EU policy makers and programme managers every day that this sector is alive, hungry for new developments and able to bring innovation to the market. The Textile ETP enjoys an excellent reputation with the European Commission and the Textile Flagships have raised a lot of attention and interest from policy makers and related industries. In some EU countries and regions Textile Innovation experiences a renewed interest and good support through cluster creation, funding programmes etc. However this is not yet the case everywhere in Europe and the new regional policy of Smart Specialisation does not yet target the textile sectors in all regions where the industry is strongly present. These and many other challenges remain and I'm looking forward to tackle them jointly with all members, collaborators and friends of the Textile ETP during 2014.
On behalf of the Textile ETP Secretariat I wish you, your families and colleagues peaceful and enjoyable Christmas holidays and a very happy, healthy and successful year 2014.
Lutz Walter & his Euratex support team
