Feeling Overwhelmed as a Mom? Here's a question: What if you're not actually as busy as you feel?
|
|
Whenever someone asks me how I am, I used to answer "I'm just so busy!"
I've stopped doing that recently, because I've realized something. When we start seeing our lives as endless to-do lists, we make ourselves miserable. And besides that, what's wrong with having lots to do? Maybe it just means that we have lots of people to love and lots of important, productive work to do.
The problem is not busy-ness, you see. The problem is emotional and physical exhaustion. And as I've gotten older and I've talked to so many women in the throes of parenting, I've realized that that level of exhaustion is often due to pressures we put on ourselves and the way we handle normal life rather than simply having too much to do.
That's an important distinction to make, because it means that by changing the way we think about our roles and by changing the way we do daily things, we could completely change the way we experience life--even if our to-do list remains quite similar.
And so this month I thought I'd share some things I've written that can help us clarify WHY we feel so busy--and what we can do if exhaustion comes creeping!

Are We as Busy As We Feel?
I know you feel busy. EVERYBODY feels busy.
But I just want to pose this question today--do you honestly have too much on your plate, or do you just FEEL like you have too much on your plate?
Because this ONE mistake is often making women feel far busier than they really are!

Are Kids' Sports Teams Worth It?
Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but here's another perspective on how we may be pouring too many financial resources and time resources into our kids--without a major return.
I'm not saying sports are bad. For some families they're amazing!
But I do think it's worth counting the cost.

When Women Start Saying "No" to Church Activities
I got in real trouble when I first wrote this article.
But here's the problem: We need to belong to a good church so that we have community and can grow in our faith and in our relationships. But so much of the way we do church today involves busy-work that can steal from relationships.
See what you think--and be kind in the comments! :)

How We've Built A Life For Ourselves Online
Parents want the best for their kids, and typically that tends to follow the path of high school (although we home schooled and it was great for the girls!), post-secondary, graduating, and finding a good job. Well what happens when that path takes a turn and it ends up being so much better?!
Will you be ready to support your kids, even if that means leaving the path of the expected?

Why Downsizing Can Be Worth It
When you look at a big house, what do you see? Do you see the perfect family living there who are well off and happy and perfect?
And when you see a small house, what do you see? Is is a family struggling to stay afloat that doesn't have everything they want?
Living smaller can actually be better for your family, and I want to tell you why!
