3rd Sunday of Easter (Year A)
26TH APRIL 2020

INTRODUCTION

During the Easter season the Church continues to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. With joy, we join together to worship God, who has brought about this great victory over sin and death.

SCRIPTURE READINGS

Acts 2:14,22-33  We hear Saint Peter’s speech on Pentecost day.
1 Peter 1:17-21  Saint Peter reminds us that Christ paid the price of our salvation.
Luke 24:13-35 The Gospel describes the appearance of Jesus to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus.

The full Mass readings for this Sunday and for the next seven days can be found here courtesy of universalis.comThe Universalis app for Android and iOS provides offline access to all Mass and Divine Office texts for the complete liturgical cycle on your mobile device for a one-off cost of £9.99.

CHURCH CLOSURE

Obviously the Church is closed during this period of the Coronavirus. I realise there is a shutdown from the government to "Stay at Home", which is so important to observe. However, if you are out for your walking exercise, shopping or medicines and are passing the Church on Sunday remember to bless yourself and give thanks for the gift of our faith. The Spiritual Communion Prayer is on the doors; remember to pray it until we pray together as a community. Please take time to pray for our medical staff, the staff in our shops, chemists, the council workers, bin and postal people, home helps and the many volunteers reaching out to our elderly & housebound and all our front line services.

MASSES

All Masses are suspended. Father Stephen will offer Mass on Easter Sunday for all your intentions both living and dead. He will continue to offer a daily Mass privately remembering you and your families.

COLLECTIONS

Last week’s collections realised £305. Please post all donations to the Church House.

FUTURE COLLECTIONS

Some parishioners have enquired if they could set up standing orders for the parish in light of the loss of our public Sunday Masses and collections. We are aware that this is an anxious time for all our people, who are concerned for themselves, the well being of their loved ones and the security of their families livelihoods. These forms are available online for those who are able in the circumstances by clicking here for Saint Josephs, and by clicking here for Saint Bridget's.

NEW GIFT AID ENVELOPES

New offertory envelopes are available for collection at the entrance to the Church. If you pay tax, please consider signing up to the Gift Aid Scheme. By doing this the parish can claim an extra 25% on top of your donation.

MISSIO SCOTLAND

Pope Francis has established an emergency fund in response to the coronavirus crisis to support ongoing missionaries with Missio Scotland. See: https://www.missioscotland.com/single-post/2020/04/07/pope-sets-up-emergency-fund-to-support-missionary-work.

PRIEST SCHOOL

Congratulations to the Scots College, Rome on last Sunday’s programme "Priest School". It was an outstanding insight into the formation and faith journey of the class of 2018/19 with special focus on five seminarians at differing stages in their studies. The response has been amazing and greatly appreciated by the parishioners at this lockdown period. Thanks are also due to the team and producers of BBC Scotland.

You can still view the programme on the BBC iPlayer here.

EASTER BLESSINGS AND THANKS

A very blessed third week of Easter to you and your families. May the joy of the Risen Christ be with you all. We are very conscious that we would be celebrating the Sacraments for our First Communicants and Confirmandi. Let us remember them and their families as we thank God for the gift of our faith. Can we also remember Maureen, Chris, James and Deacon Paul who are promoting the life of our parishes through Social Media. You have been a lifeline to these communities at the present moment. "Thank You".

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

DEACON JOE MCGILL

Congratulations to Joe McGill who was ordained to the Diaconate last Sunday at a private ceremony in Saint Joseph’s. May God bless and reward him as he prepares for his final year to the priesthood. In these strange and difficult times, we ask you to especially remember Joe in your prayers. If you’d like to know more about the Diocesan Priesthood please contact our Vocations Director, Father John Morrison, at e-mail vocations@rcdop.org.uk or tel:01418895056.

GIFT AID

If you pay tax, please consider signing a Gift Aid form so that the parish can claim an extra 25% on your contribution. The Parish only requires your NI number and address; no other information is required. If you are interested, please speak to Father Stephen.

LEGACIES

When making a will, have you thought of leaving a legacy to the parish or diocese?
