Firstly, both the board and the teachers would like to take this opportunity to say a huge “Thank you” for all the kind and generous donations for our Christmas Charity this year. Your support was simply overwhelming. When collection day came around, there were quite a few tears of joy shed by the volunteers as they couldn’t believe the amount we had collected for our 3 families.

Monday, February 6th is going to be the BIG classroom swap. Both the 3yr olds & the 4yr olds will be swapping classrooms permanently, until the end of June. This is an exciting time for the kids to discover a new and fun space!

Feb 1st is Backpack registration. This is an opportunity for any children currently in the 3 yr old program to register for the 4 year old program for the next school year ( 2017-18)

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THE FOLLOWING CLEAN UP NIGHTS - FEBRUARY 2nd, APRIL 24th, JUNE 20th. If you have any questions about clean-up nights, please send us an email ssps@shaw.ca Please check the clean-up night list outside the classrooms to see which is your designated clean up night. February the 3’s will be discovering the many shapes and colors through songs and crafts and games.

On the 14th of February we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day. Children are encouraged to bring in a card for their friends. Please make sure all children receive a card from your child as we don’t want any child to feel left out. This is a great opportunity for your child to try to write his/her name or just the initial letter in their name. We will be making a Valentine Card Bag on the 9th of February and we will leave these bags outside the classroom during lesson time. We ask that parents help their child to deliver the cards into each bag at the beginning of preschool. It is easier if you don’t specify a name to every card and that way they can just put one card in each bag rather than try to find each child’s bag.

The 3’s have now started with a sharing day. This gives each child an opportunity to bring something special from home to share with the rest of the class. This could be a special toy, stuffy, their favorite book, song, photograph.  Sharing Days help to build their confidence to talk in front of others and it also helps the other children with their listening skills as well as developing their aptitude to ask questions. When it is your child’s sharing day we would really appreciate it if you could spend a little time preparing them with what they are going to say. For example where they got it from, who they got it from, what it does, why they like it etc. We will obviously prompt them as well be asking questions.

In March our theme is Community Helpers. The 3's will be exploring the people that help us in our community, such as firefighters, police officers, doctors, dentists and veterinarians. We are hoping that we will be getting a  couple "in school visits" from some of these special helpers. There will be lots of opportunities for the children to role play and to dress up as their favorite community helper.

February, we will be doing a book study. We will be looking at the collection of the Five Little Monkey stories written by Eileen Christelow. The include five little monkeys washing the car, jumping on the bed, baking a birthday cake, sitting in a tree, etc.

On February 10th, we will be taking a field trip to Millennium Smile - Crowfoot Dental (210 - 20 Crowfoot Cres NW) Parents will need to drop off and pick their child. The field trip will be 1 hour in duration. We will not make up the rest of the class time on this day, but don't worry as some of our other field trips will require more than the allotted class time. Since the dental office is small, we encourage parents to drop off their child and check out some of the nearby coffee shops and/or stores while the children are visiting the dentist. DONT FORGET TO WEAR YOUR FIELD TRIP T-SHIRTS!

Mrs. Walker AM class - 9:00-10:
00am
Mrs. O'Neill AM class - 10:15-11:15am
Mrs. O'Neill PM class - 1:00-2:00pm
Mrs. Walker PM class - 2:15-3:15pm

On the 13th we will also be celebrating Valentine’s Day.  Children are encouraged to bring in a card for their friends. Please make sure all children receive a card from your child as we don’t want any child to feel left out. This is a great opportunity to have your child practice signing their name! We will be making a Valentine Card Bag on the 8th of Feb and we will leave these bags outside the classroom during lesson time. We ask that parents help their child to deliver the cards into each bag at the beginning of preschool. It is easier if you don’t specify a name to every card and that way they can just put one card in each bag rather than try to find each child’s bag.

In February, we will also continue to welcome Miss Tune-ah into our classrooms for music and in addition will also look forward to welcoming Miss Meaghan to the preschool for 4 yoga sessions. You can check your class calendars for specific dates (click here to view the SSPS calendars)

Our theme for March is Space. We will be looking at the moon, the sun, the earth from space, the constellation of the stars as well as looking at space crafts and astronauts. Throughout the topic, the children will be involved in making a book all about Space. To celebrate their achievement in making this special book we would like to invite you to a book signing session on March 20th. This will be done in the last 15 min of class time. The space topic will finish on March 22nd with a field trip to Spaceport. Transport will be provided for this field trip. The morning classes will need to be at the preschool at 8:45am and will arrive back at the preschool at 12pm. The afternoon classes will need to be at the preschool at 12:15am and will be back at 3:30pm so the days will be a bit longer than normal.

REMINDERS
  1. We would like to remind parents that all outdoor footwear be removed at the gymnasium doors. If outdoor footwear is not removed, the corridors and classroom areas do get wet and then those who have removed their footwear are getting wet feet. Your co-operation in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
  2. A friendly reminder to parents of the importance of being prompt to class. Classes do start at 9am and 1pm as we don’t want children to miss out on things.
  3. Your child must wear indoor shoes at all times, no slippers please.
  4. Please park in the designated parking areas. No drop offs in the NO PARKING ZONE.
  5. Please pick up your child promptly at dismissal to avoid tears.
  6. We do not allow your child to bring toys or other items from home, except on their "Sharing Day" It is difficult to keep track of these items and we want to avoid the tears associated with a lost or broken toy.
  7. Don't forget to collect your children's artwork off the floor outside the classroom at the end of each day.

WISH LIST - clean (label removed) baby food jars with lid please.

Remember you can check the website for your child's monthly calendar, found here
